Cup success at SJP

Strange how seldom we've met in the cups. Amazing to think this was them as FA cup holders - the last time they won a major competitive trophy. Great victory, the most important single meeting between the clubs (90 was arguably more significant, but two legs) and how fitting we ended their run as defending champions- a status they've never regained since. No wonder "We Are Their World".

I remember watching Pathe News at the pictures or flicks. Always hundreds of flat caps went up in the air when a goal was scored. I wonder how many people went home with someone else's cap.

You can see the crowd is basically mixed quite a lot. People cheering and clapping our goals all over the ground. I guess it wasn’t long after this it all changed

Just reading the Stokoe, Sundeland and 1973 book. Stokoe played in that game for the mags and it was his worst moment in football. 14 years later was his best

In comparison we drew Boro in 97/98, 11/12, 12/13 and 17/18… I think.

Just looked on stat cat that season we lost to 6-1 at home to them on 26th December & 3-1 on away 27th December. What a depressing 24 hours that must of been.

Absolutely. I wasn’t even that bothered about reading it thinking I knew everything there is to know but it is brilliantly researched and gives you a real insight into Stokoe himself. Great read so far.
