Crowds Next Season

If we manage to get up and are in the Championship next season, what sort of crowds do you think we’d get? Assuming there were no restrictions of course, I reckon we could attract 35 - 40k for most games, with well over 40k for some of the bigger ones. There seems a genuine buzz and positivity about us at present; I would like to think there’ll be loads who can’t wait to get back to watching live games.

Be interesting to see if the last year has put anyone off attending games in future; there are bound to be some I suppose.
35k average... two reasons:-
1) we’ve been starved of the chance to go... people will be keen to get back watching
2) we got 30k in League One.... this is a higher and much better level of football.
expect 3-4 big crowds, Boro, the Mags .....

On top of the promotion if there's an extra positive buzz about the quality of the signings we make then I can't see why several crowds of over 40,000 can't be achieved.
It might even be the norm.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

I suspect that some people will have got out of the habit of going to football and may drift away.

On the flip side, there will be a lot of people (like me) that are so desperate to get back to football that I’ll be renewing SC and going to more always than I have in years

Got to remember in the PL we were getting 40k but around 5k of that were PL fans, 2k were away fans and 5k were freebies that the club handed out. I reckon we’ll get 33ish with more for the bigger games.
And you've got to remember we were averaging over 30,000 in League 1 with no freebies, virtually no away fans and no premiership fans.

Pretty exciting the thought of that. Depends on lots of things but would be an unbelievable feeling piling into a packed SOL with an ambitious championship squad at the start of next year.

Would be a contrast to our last home game for sure.

Could be a fair chunk of people who won't be willing to go anywhere crowded, once virus paranoia gets a hold it could be a long time before it leaves them, only question is whether there'll be enough to noticeably affect crowd sizes.

Around 30k in this division but we had some bigger crowds v teams with good away support like Bradford Coventry Luton etc so I think if we are in champ we will 40k if we doing ok.

Definitely get that first home game if allowed. Lots may of course not feel comfortable still due to Covid.

Putting aside the desire for people to go back after Covid, I’d like to think the stayaways who weren’t going before Covid would be willing to get themselves along and show the new owner he has a club worth investing in and the potential it’s got - regardless of whether we’re in League 1 or the Championship.

To be averaging 30k+ in League One with Donald at the helm and the poor football (and results) Ross and especially Parkinson delivered, I’d be massively disappointed if we weren’t 5k up on that even if we stayed in League One narrowly missing out on promotion now that there’s a new sense of optimism with the owner and a manager that seems a lot more positive than the last two. Missing out on promotion is obviously worse case scenario, but if it did happen I’d like to think it would be a similar scenario to 1997-98 when we finished the season as the form team, battering most, narrowly missed out but by that point were an unstoppable juggernaut that carried it over into the next year and walked the league.

I reckon we could sell over 30k season tickets. We were selling around 24k in League one. Would be fantastic if we scraped up to 35k, but I think 32k is realistic. Then 5k-10k walk ups depending on opponents and how we are performing. Worst case scenario 27k tickets with 30k crowds, but can't see why it would be that low at first.

It's a tough one to judge. A lot of people may still have worries about mixing on large crowds. Also don't know what effect the unemployment level will have amongst other things. If we build a team to challenge then we could be looking 35000 plus in my opinion.

Once we start losing , it would drop though , logically if we got promoted it would take a massive rebuild to put together a squad capable of consolidating in the championship. We would maybe finish mid bottom half first season and then improve the squad over the next 2 or 3 seasons . That would mean initially losing a fair few games

I had a season ticket from when the Sol opened until about 2013 when I had to give it up for financial reasons. I got another one in the Moyes season but that finished me off. I went to the Boxing Day game against Bradford but that was the last game I went to. Im thinking of getting another season ticket once we are allowed like.

A bit off topic but doesn't anyone know when renewal dates are out? I will absolutely be returning, no matter what league we end up in. I think there will be less of the older fans due to covid concerns but a lot of people who had given up because of Donald will be back. I'd say 35k plus if full allocation is allowed. A couple of wins on the bounce and it'll be packed out.

Dont know official dates but Chris Waters the supporters liaison officer said “very soon” when someone asked him on Twitter.

Yep,35k average, with 40k initially, boxing day, biggies...

I, for one, am ready to buy a ST after a gap of a (good) few years...

I agree, 35k average with 40k+ for other games.

Anyone doubting us getting many over 30k needs to factor in that we will have investment next season and will I'm sure make some exciting signings.
