Im not going because i dont want to .we are absolutely filth to watch and i dont fancy wasting more money than i already have watching that shit

Hope people understand

i wouldnt be so sure. they barely get that at the moment when fighting at the right end of the championship. give them a full calendar year with no wins at home, double relegation, an underwhelming season in L1, a team with that could bore a glass eye to sleep, and form of one win in last 7, and i think every club in the country would be thankful to get 25k

Not when we got 41k against the same opposition 2 weeks prior. No excuse for the attendance to be 16k less

I admire your commitment, I do a 640 mile round trip occasionally, but distance is also directly related to costs and disposable income, of which you plainly have more than a lot of people for whom distance/cost is a major reason. It's £20 for a match ticket, and circa £90 petrol plus food etc.

On another issue, It's also related to Family commitments too, as could be seen by the woman today whinging on TV about her old man taking their family into debt for attendance at the Champions League final.

All valid points you make and you certainty won't see me disagree with any of them.

You go to games for whatever reasons, just as you don't go for whatever reasons. That's how I've always seen this topic.

I don't put much stock into the terms 'fan' and 'supporter' tbh.

Meanings of words change, over the years, and these are good examples.

A Sunderland born & bred ex-SC exile, in Australia may not be a fanatic or financially support the club ...

... what would you call them?
They would be a ‘fan.’ I’ve given my reasoning earlier in the thread. I only got into this conversation through boredom anyway.

If they are just as loyal as a ST holder yet end up paying more for match tickets then they should really just buy a ST.

Some go to a greater total of games, home and away, than SC holders who don't travel.

If they can't guarantee getting to home games a SC might end up being more expensive.

For a play off semi final? I very much doubt there are many clubs that would not have the biggest game of the season for a play off semi final. The idea we could have half our biggest gate of the season is a disgrace and tbh I think Boro would just about sell out for a play off game, even in league 1. Fair enough their week to week support is shite but who doesnt turn out for big games ffs?

Mate its about priorities, Im a Suddicker, Im certainly not loaded but as an SAFC fan there is no chance I could miss a play off semi final if I lived in the City. If I had to I would eat beans on toast for the week and spend the £20 I saved on scran on going to the match.
I'll leave it here as its pointless debating it any further given I think you're talking platinum plated bollocks

I’m not going because in the last 6 weeks, I’ve had a family weekend in London for Wembley, my daughters 10th birthday, my nieces wedding, the wife has just been to benedorm on hen weekend, bank holidays, kids etc, I’m not shelling out anymore money on the club, if as a season card holder I’d been given a freebie for loyalty I might have went and I won’t go to Wembley either. I’ll watch it on the box

It's not bollocks at all. I've been in the position where I couldn't afford it. Just count yourself lucky you can.
I think its more the people who can afford it but choose to sit in the boozer allday and cant be arsed to go over. Then they are desperate for a final ticket if we get there.

The ground should be nearly full i dont understand some of our “fans”

So, not a Sunderland supporter despite the money they've previously put onto the club.

Basically why I’m not going in a nutshell. I’ve spent enough this season on watching dross.

I can go but I'm choosing not to. Working from 7am til 6pm on sat then 7am til 5pm on sun. I could race through on sat night but I already know I'm in for a tiring weekend and just can't be arsed and going to watch it at home. If I'm a shit fan then I'll lose exactly zero hours sleep worrying about it.

You're a shit fan in my opinion.

I understand that some people can't make it or can't afford it but if you're able to go and choosing not to cause you're annoyed at the ticket price or annoyed we didn't finish top two or whatever then you're a shit fan who isn't really supporting the team.
I’ll be there just as I have been all season, and last, and the one before etc.

But there’s no way I’d call anybody a shit fan if they chose not to go.

Up to you. We had a crowd of 41k against them 2 weeks ago, if we drop 15k below that for a bigger game against the same opposition then we should be shot with shit....There is no way there are 15,000 not turning up because they are skint, its bollocks and excuses......Mag fans are no richer than us, pay higher prices than us but I absolutely guarantee they would sell out a league 1 play off game.

Huh? That isn’t what I said at all, and he’d be a supporter because he has supported the club financially, just not one who is currently ‘supporting.’ Re-read what I actually said.
you said, but if you're able to go and choosing not to cause you're annoyed at the ticket price or annoyed we didn't finish top two or whatever then you're a shit fan who isn't really supporting the team.
he chooses not to go, so going by what you said, him choosing not to go, (because of the treatment he suffered) makes him a shit fan. get a life.

You’ve changed the goalposts here...

So now your theoretical person who previously didn’t support the club financially, but has now supported the club financially, would be both a fan and a supporter who isn’t currently supporting the club financially, so let’s still go with fan. Hope this helps.

That's fair enough. To suggest it's about priorities though and being told safc should be a priority when it comes to finances is weapons grade horse shit
