Hi all,

Just to let you know that myself and two others have opened up a CrossFit affiliate in Washington.

We already have 50members and have been applying Crossfit programming for the last 7month with the members.

We have just raised the money to be able to be affiliated so can now spread the CrossFit message.

We have a small space so we limit the class size to 15 to provide quality. We are emphasising good quality coaching and scale where needed.

If you would like to like the Crossfit Tailored Training page you can keep up to date with info.

Website for information is www.crossfittailoredtraining.com

Cheers,
Gav

Finding a crossfit gym for £20 p/m is like finding a golden unicorn that shits £50 notes from what I've seen.

I've just found it, £40 p/m :eek::confused:

Thing is, it's just a factory unit with stuff in, CROSSFIT must charge a massive premium to use the brand name.

Yeah, if you want to train at 6am, 6pm or 7pm which I wouldn't be doing, all the rest of the time you're on your own, there should be a membership deal that reflects this imo.

That is how crossfit works though. You do a class in a group with a coach which is planned each day. Most places have it open at certain times during the day for open gym as well.

Well yeah, they try and push the whole "community" thing as a selling point as if it's an important part of training but it isn't really, if I was motivated enough to get myself to the gym for a 6am class, then I wouldn't need anyone else to motivate me, I'm just saying I think there should be an off-peak membership for people who work shifts and aren't interested in high-fiving every tom, dick and harry after they've squat

But that is what crossfit is. If you don't want to do group classes you would just go to another gym. People seem to go because they like the community and someone else creating a workput plan for them.

Well that's NOT what crossfit is at all, the group class part of it has absolutely no bearing on the training concepts itself, it's just a selling point.

What is crossfit

Constantly varied, functional movements performed at a high intensity.

At CrossFit Tailored Training we specialise in not specialising. All of our CrossFit workouts are varied and can be scaled or adapted to suit anybody no matter what age, sex, size or level of fitness they possess. Each WOD (Workout of the Day) is designed to cater for everyone. Anyone from a young athlete to an OAP can train alongside each other and carry out identical functional movement patterns with just the number of reps or loads changing. This means each workout can be completed by ALL members.

Our members are trained to perform multiple, diverse physical challenges in a fun and motivational environment. Our CrossFit community will support and encourage you all the way.

Anyway, I'm just pissed because I'm never doing classes at those times stated and at £40 a month it's expensive to turn up at say 3pm and complete a WOD, like I said earlier there should be a cheaper off-peak membership, bah humbug !

I don't know why you are arguing? If you don't want to do set time classes don't go to crossfit, choose one of the many other regular gyms.

Crossfit sells the group classes bit as that is what is unique about it. You do the WOD as a group in the set time classes.

I used to do it but have stopped going now.

Because I'd like to give crossfit a try but I'm not going to be able to make about 95% of the classes over the course of a year, also I'm not interested in the community aspect at all, just the workouts, it's the workouts that is what is unique about it, the community is a side event that you are sold on at just about every other bootcamp/workout class/circuits type exercise group and if you've done it before I'm surprised that you think the group class part of it is the unique aspect of crossfit.

Look at other crossfit gyms then quite a few have more times than this one. I don't think the group classes are the only unique part of crossfit but it is something different to regular gyms. A lot of the people who went to where I went liked the programming that was set but also the group element as it helped motivate them and push themselves further.

£40 p/m is fantastic value if there's coaches/lifters there who understand the key principles of training and know how to really help you step up. A quick skim on the website and I will say that it seems they aren't like some Crossfit gyms where they throw people in the deep end. Some of the lists they do in crossfit require a tremendous amount of skill.

I think a decent way to have people enjoy it without taking away the intensity element is to teach form and then do some safer metabolic fatigue work

Agree with this. £40 is cheaper than most others.

They all do the ramp up but I still think it is a lot to learn in such a short time.

I stopped going as I didn't think I had good enough form on a lot of movements yet so couldn't keep up with the intensity. With being fairly injury prone I thought it was sensible to stop and focus more on the movements. As well as strugging to make times of classes and kind of wanted to just do my own thing rather than going to classes.

Think I pay around £40 for where I train. But that is in London and has various world level competitors train there. Just walking in that place adds kg to your total

I went to crossfit for a bit. Did the onramp, the teaching was pretty good generally but an hour on an Olympic lift isn't anywhere near enough.

The bit that I really didn't like was going to the classes where they are then putting lifts under time or competition pressure and form suffered massively, I don't really think there is much that can be done about that it's going to happen.

Exactly the same as me. Unless you are coming in with lots of lifting experience it isn't possible to learn that many different movements over a short space of time.
