Exactly.
Not that you'd know it from Look North this morning....mind you tomorrow's Northumberland Plate got a mention.

Today's Sky Sports Riverside Bingo:

Empty Seats
Thermal Vests
Durham Chairman Ian Botham
Lumley Castle Resident Ghost
Shane Watson
Slow wicket
Wooly Hats and Scarves.
Bit lively in first hour.
Headingley version

Empty seats
Western terrace getting lively
Ugly mugs cafe
Pitch changes depending on cloud cover or not
Dickie
Yarkshire chants

See Vaughan has piped up ..."How wrong can @jbairstow21 be .. Never has England team had so much support but it’s you and your team that has disappointed Jonny .. WIN 2 games and you are in the semis .. With this negative, pathetic mindset I am concerned though .. it’s not the media’s fault you have lost 3 games .. !!!"

Comes across as a bit of a tit Vaughan at times mind.

This is what he wanted

Gets his name in the news

There is history too here by the way, Bairstow called him out years ago n left his agency, ever since Vaughan has been more critical than bairstow than the likes of Buttler and co

I don’t mind criticism, nasser n Athers have been critical she rightly so they deserve some, but I just don’t believe Vaughan even means what he says most the time

People will think I’m just defending bairstow for sake of it but I’m not i just don’t think people should read to much into those quotes they are just aimed at Vaughan and KP, who lets be honest are gobshites

He was horrendous man

A thoroughly unpleasant bloke too

His first two years in charge of the ODI side saw some sizeable improvements in performances and results, and we were closer to winning a 50 over ICC tournament than we ever have been before or since. His personal ODI form was never good enough, but he led the side well in ODI's for 2 years. The 2007 World Cup was a shocker mind and I think that's clouded people's memories of Vaughan as an ODI captain.

He's a bit of a rent-a-quote now which is a shame, because he has a fantastic cricket brain and a dry sense of humour. I'm not sure why there's been a sudden change in his media personality. Can only assume it's an attempt to say relevant and in the headlines.

It's not been a sudden change, ever since he's been a pundit he's made the odd comment that appears to have been totally exaggerated and seemingly only to get a rise out of somebody. Whilst the rest of the time talking quite sensibly.

I meant sudden as it seemed to be as soon as he retired and went into full-time media work, he was nothing like the level-headed, calm and likeable man who captained England so well.

Sorry, I read it as you saying he'd suddenly turned into a rent a quote

He did

The ultimate populist, just says what he thinks everyone wants to here, changes every week

Not really thats what he is remembered as, its the same thing he is excusing Bairstow and co of

As Bairstow said, its a bit rich coming from him

It is a bit hypocritical but Vaughan is paid to give his opinion in the media so he can't complain too much.

I think for the position he comes in he is, although he is fading, he is a good as most in those positions though

Finch is massively unrated for me though, canny bloke for an Aussie too
Remember being in a pub in Notts last year after we'd won at Trent Bridge. All the Surrey boys happened to come into the same pub, and Finchy bought us all a pint, before coming over to our table to ask "don't any of you c*nts ever do any f*cking work?":D

He also stopped my mate getting run over that morning. Smashing bloke

Foul mouthed hooligan

 class

Does strike me as a canny normal bloke, as does Maxwell

Seems like maybe the ODI side was slightly restricted from the win at all costs mentality that the arseholes in the test team became.

There is a reason he never made it to Sky though, they actually want balanced views and analysis, he should be working for The Sun.

But Sky still employ Warne

Interesting... Can you PM me too please. No strong opinions either way personally

'People were waiting for us to fail' - Jonny Bairstow lashes out at England critics

Well well look who's taken the criticism badly

There's a reason the English psyche is as it is when it comes to world cups. We're used to being shit in them. It's up to you lot to prove us wrong and do it differently this time. Otherwise we have a a right to criticise
He really is a gobshite  never likes to keep his toys in the pram does Bairstow.

He's completely wrong. No English cricket fan "wants England to fail". Seen it said on here as well.

Think it's the opposite. We've been down this road too many times in cricket and football and we're sick of it. As I said further up it's up to them to do something different this time otherwise we have a right to moan
Dan Norcross was going on about this on twitter earlier. The media are desperate for England to win, but also are paid to be honest and not just cheerleaders. Bairstow seems to think he's above criticism.

Looking at everything, I would say that Bairstow and Vaughan are both right and wrong. Bairstow is being defensive, clearly, but he's right about the pitches and the need for the team to stay true to itself. In turn, Vaughan is right to point towards Bairstow's defensiveness, but the stuff about our 'worst ever' World Cup is clearly bollocks. In previous years, the top teams have mainly just had to turn up to qualify for the final rounds.
