Since the sad demise of the CC Booksale at the Riverside I've switched my attention to World of Books and Awesome Books this past 12 months where quite a few bargains are to be found.

I would recommend virtually any of Stephen Chalke's books especially 'No Coward Soul - The Remarkable Story of Bob Appleyard' and Tom Cartwright -The Flame Still Burns.

Simon Jones' The Test is a brilliant and honest read and Peter Walker's 'It's Not Just Cricket' is highly recommended and an eye opener for anyone like me who only remembers him as the presenter of The John Player League on BBC2 during the 1970s.
Mark Peel's 'Colin Milburn- Cricketing Falstaff' is also an excellent but sad read about the Burnopfield Basher and I finally got round to reading Stuart Rayner's 'The War Of The White Roses' which is a cracking read and I imagine ripe for a sequel considering recent events.🤔

Finally I reread Duncan Hamilton's masterpiece 'A Long And Beautiful Summer - A Short Elegy For Red Ball Cricket' again...a book that gets increasingly more poignant with each read.

I bought The Test (Simon Jones) a few years ago and I've never got around to reading it. Probably because when I bought it, I noticed that Piers Morgan had written the foreword. I will give it a go now.

The Judge (Robin Smith's autobiography) is a recommendation from me. I know he's marmite at the moment too but Michael Vaughan's autobiography was one of my favourites also.

i've still never finished that. days at the cricket and holidays were the only times i really fond to read and they've really dried up over the last few years sadly. too many distractions when i'm at home

I seem to recall at the Riverside you always seemed to be carrying either Hamilton's 'A Last English Summer' or some sort of huge piece of cake.

Finally got around to reading Five Trophies and a Funeral.

Great book. Maybe the best on Durham so far.
