Craft Beer

Onto 742 unique beers now. Probably reach 750 by Saturday night if I make an effort to try something new tonight at the FireStation then out in the town tomorrow, starting in the Keel Tavern I think.

I know this is child’s play compared to some of you lot, but it’s still a nice round number approaching.
Didn’t quite get there. 747 right now.

Might be in the Five Swans briefly tonight so might get whatever they’ve got on cask. However I’ll have a can or two tomorrow & easily achieve it for Santa & Little Baby Jesus

Hopefully it doesn’t effect output up here & maybe gets there beers out further afield.

I was drinking cask Double Maxim on Saturday night in the Peacock
A company based on the south coast committing to preserve regional brewing heritage ❓
There’s another thread, but apparently the owner is from Seaham

I’ve seen their premises at the south end of Seaham. Maybe just where they’re based rather than where the owner is from.

It would be good to see some proper journalism from the Echo here. Their article on the website is essentially just a press release but it confirms a historic and widely loved Wearside company has been sold off to a mostly unheard of company on the south coast, totally out of the blue.

They've been hoovering up small regional trad breweries in around the UK this year but are also looking up grow in Australia. It's a strategy that instantly sets alarm bells ringing in my head. I hope I'm wrong but we've seen a load of similar breweries go the journey after being bought out and lost within a wider portfolio.

I'd be gutted if anything happened to Maxim so I'm praying this lot know what they're doing.

On a personal level I think their beers are average at best, but that's mainly down to taste. Little interest in cask blondes and pales, but they do put out the odd decent one. Obviously I don't want to see a local business disappear, and I know a lot of people like their stuff so as I'm not a weirdo I hope Maxim beers stay around.

Unrelated but I see Phantom in Reading appear to have gone tits up.

That’s a shame about phantom. Didn’t they have a Sunderland connection?

Just found a NM Death Star impy with a best before of May 2022.

If I drink it will I die and/or shite mysel?
It’ll be class. I’ve still got a few older than that knocking about I should get smashed in like.
There’s a Love Lane Brewery can in Home Bargains.
Black Bird Extra Stout. 6.7%

It’s not bad at all!
Just drank it. It’s very good like. If they’ve still got some in I’ll stick up on that

750th unique check in on untapped.

Had to make it a big one. I’m guessing I’ll be into 2028 at least before I’m posting my 1000th.

Ended up smashing through a load of decent strength beers after I woke up from my Christmas Day (Guinness induced) nap. Stopped up until about 3 in the morning. Let’s just say owa lass wasn’t overly happy cos my mate wandered past twice on his way to see a mate for a drink so he ended up sitting with me drinking cans (the shit I reserve for guests) watching music videos on YouTube.

Anyhow, about to check in my 760th now!

Opened the Belgian box that appears in Aldi or Lidl semi regularly.

Thanks to those who recommended the Cantillon tour. We did it on Saturday morning, very interesting, an excellent guide and the beers weren't bad either. Didn't realise it was in Mollenbeek though - warra shithole!

On the surface, that's awful news.
Maxim was the heart of vaux, mostly the people. Now it would appear to be just IP for a non local corporation.
