Craft Beer

You not on the despies anymore?
He's a proper beer drinker now. I think he still likes the odd lager and lime though.

I still love a Despies but I'm branching out into new stuff. The reason I thought I didn't like beer is because all I really knew was Carling, Fosters, Stella, Kronenberg etc, all mass-produced pilsners that taste pretty much identical and just have a manky bitter aftertaste.

Despies is strong at 5.9% and quite sweet, so I find it really drinkable.

I thought I didn't really like stouts and porters and the like but over the last year or so friends have introduced me to new beers and I'm quite enjoying them, stouts in particular and especially milk stouts.

It doesn't help that I'm lactose intolerant mind as milk not only makes me fart constantly it makes them smell incredibly bad.

Telt ya.

I'd drink despies over any of the ones you mentioned like.

I can drink stouts/porters, don't mind them, just find them a bit too heavy to have many.

Good on you for admitting it and giving other stuff a try mate. Beer is class :-)

Since we're on this thread about beer, the missus wants to go out for an afternoon/evening session tomorrow - and we're thinking of Sunderland for a chance. Aside from the Isis and the Dun Cow, are there any decent pubs in the city centre these days?

2 Church Lane has a load of craft cans etc. Ivy House has a good range of cask/craft kegs and cans.

Port of Call is canny, that Church Lane place over the road to the Dun Cow gets a few mentions on here. Fitzies is always good for a couple, Ivy House is ok. There's worse places to call in than the Worm and my daughter likes Revolution, not my thing but she reckons its canny.

Port of Call is good. Does cask ales and craft beer from key kegs.

If @Frijj wants a despies, let him have a despies.

Obviously, people can drink what they want. Don't think anyone has said anything to the contrary, have they? I wish Carling tasted like nectar of the gods to me, it would save me a canny bit of money.

Nothing wrong with that, most of the craft beer snobs will have been drinking something similar until fairly recently.
I still love a Corona on a roasting hot summer day!

They can, I just think the over reactions to mass produced algers/beers/ales are way OTT.

Exactly, most drinks have a time and place.

Elvis Juice is canny

Flying Dog do an 8.3% called Raging Bitch which isn't bad either but not in Tesco afaik

I had their California something the other week 6.8% - smelled like peaches, but had the world's hottest chilli in it. Very odd beverage

Aye, it's daft, I drink a load of mass produced stuff, as long as it tastes ok then I'm happy enough. 2 litres of say Tanglefoot, Green Geko etc or whatever for about £4-£5 is very good value when compared to the £15 or so it would cost for the same amount of something supposedly craft. All similar strength iirc. Goes down nice enough IMO.

Still like the craft stuff, don't give a shit if it's craft or not, I'm just a fan of the really hoppy IPA stuff.

Anyone on here London based? Amsterdam's finest brewery, Brouwerij't IJ (pronounced browery-uht-eye) are coming to BrewDog at Shepherds Bush on the 10th on May. 9 beers on the go, and I can confirm that they are mostly superb, especially the IPA and the Columbus. Would highly recommend this:

I'm the same, I'll drink anything apart from the overhopped IPA's.
