Coventry

It will.

There's no rude awakening for me. Look at how many sides go up and straight back down. Half that go up as champions stay up. The players have advanced very well under Lampard. It's difficult to say which players will step up and which ones won't.

If we didn't have Lampard I would be hoping just to not finish bottom. What he has done for us is give the players training and confidence to shoot from where he used to score from. Our GOTM has become what the GOTS used to look like.

I'm not saying we will stay up. But we have a better chance of staying up than many on here would like us to have.
how many players are you looking at bringing in to the club in the summer transfer window

Not a single Coventry player gets into Sunderland, Leeds, West Ham, Forest, Spurs team.

Got some serious work on their hands.

Coventry would need to spend at least £150 million just to have a fighting chance to stay up next season are they prepared to spend that amount of money

For SAFC, we are happy for the opposition to have the ball and we used to playing that way so being promoted didn’t change anything. We are defensively solid (bar a few shit shows) but not great going forward.

Coventry like dominating the ball and playing on the front foot but that won’t happen in the PL. It’s going to be virtually impossible for them to be successful playing the way they do now.

It’s no coincidence the two most successful teams in recent years (SAFC and Leeds) are happy to let the opposition have the ball and are defensively minded teams.
You've not been watching our games then 😂

Of course we attack the poor sides that park the bus. But the better sides we defend and hit on the counter. It's been easy in the Championship as we normally have more attackers than they have defenders as we attack so quickly. This isn't going to work in the Prem.

My hope is we get points on the board before everyone settles in. Give our players a bit of confidence about the season ahead.

I think they'll be much like Ipswich in signing the best of the lower leagues. But still get relegated; the new WBA perhaps?

Keeper might get into a couple of them. Then there are players like Wright, Onyeka, Rudoni who could be decent with better players around them, but if they're your best players.....

That's probably not a good sign for your defence tbh.

The bulk of this Cov squad finished 5th last season, below the SAFC squad that needed pulling to bits in preparation for the PL. They don't need to do as well as we have like, but they definitely need better than what they've got.
And this is my point. Lampard took us from 2 points away from the relegation zone in November to 5th. He then took mainly the same players to champions of the Championship with games to spare.

There's a lot of people that want to see Lampard fail more than people on here want to see us go straight back down. We're supposed to not have a chance of staying up even though nobody has a clue who we're signing before the season starts.

Really interesting and informative post 👍.
Undoubtedly, you've been by far the best side in the championship this season and have fully deserved your title and promotion.
Coventry were always a top flight club in my childhood years and beyond and I'd personally love to see you stay up (but not at our expense if we manage to get up).
Ade is really popular at Boro, he did well when the rat left for Wolves and although he obviously didn't like the 'limelight' in his press conferences, he always came across really well and spoke a lot of sense.
Couldn't agree more about this 'tinpot' garbage as well.
All clubs are important to their own fans and this weird attitude of snobbery towards certain clubs is so disrespectful.
Certain people on here would do well to remember that the third tier was Sunderland's level not so long ago.

Anyway, best wishes to your club.
“ Tinpot “ seems to bother you. It’s just banter, chill.

@Astute

It's great to see you're alive; I thought something terrible had happened to you.

I was going to reply to some of your latest posts but you genuinely seem unwell so I'll leave it, and wish you good luck for the season.
We just spent a year in a different universe 😂

I'm as well as could be expected for an old codger. Next season is going to be an adventure. I'll be happy if we get to the last game of the season with something to play for.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Lampard says who he would like and then it's down to our owner to negotiate. Would like to see about 8 players come in.

Lampard is wiser than that. It's certainly going to be interesting times before the season starts.

Which they shouldn't be.....

I think we have a decent chance of staying up. This isn't because of the players we have but the quality of the players I'm expecting us to sign. We're certainly going to break our record for the most expensive signing in our history as it's only 7.7m for Wright. But you never know we might look at the signings and start planning for the Championship in 12 months 😁

I aint reading too much from people on here, but I would implore Sunderland lads not to expect Coventry to drown, of all the teams to go up this summer, they have the best chance to stay up. Itll be tough but I anticipate big, solid spending.

It’s not the teams* that go up that stay up it’s the teams that play next season.

*I expect you meant clubs not teams.

Keeper isn't even their player. He's on loan from Brighton.

Good post and congrats on going up. I’ve said on here before that there is a lot of similarity between Coventry and Sunderland as a lot of people seem to move from the NE to Warwickshire. My other half is half Mackem through his feral grandparents (Seaham and Lumley) but he refuses to agree that being a Mackem is genetic.

Just wanted to pick up on Doug though - other half said he’d listened to an interview with him last week and he’s not from Coventry like I thought and he only bought you because he wanted to do something philanthropic. Said hes actually more of a rugby fan that footy. Thought that was interesting. I can find out the name of the pod cast if you like.

Anyway, good luck next season. Except against us obvs.
Doug was born in Suffolk and studied in the East Mids. Although he followed rugby he is an all round sports fan.
His main business is based in Stratford and got interested in CCFC during his time there.

I believe you're right when you say there are similarities between us. Two areas of old, traditional industries decimated by politics and cheap overseas labour. Certainly more to unite us than divide.

I have some great memories from up there.
Used to catch the bus from Houghton to Sunderland with my granda to buy single 45 records - 6/8d each, 3 for a pound.
Ralph Coates lived over the road from granda in Hetton.
Pop and crisps at the Comrades club.
First footing for 6d down Caroline street.
Granda staying up at night to stop leek slashers!
Many far distant memories.

Then the move south.
My early hero at Highfield road was Neil Martin, boy could he head the ball. Never seen anyone better.

You can probably tell our seasons already over, spending so much time on here, apologies, but living and returning up there was always a treat. (apart from that North Sea wind).

Similar to my thoughts this season for us just after promotion, so I am obviously elated with how it’s all gone despite a few bumps in the road along the way.

I’m intrigued to how this will all play out for Coventry, Ipswich and A.N Other.

It’s probably not even the money. How do they attract players, who’s running their recruitment, what’s his contacts in the continent etc.
