Coventry

They had better xg in both games. It's ok to admit it, we still won.
Clearly you know nowt about game strategy. They had all the ball because we allowed them to. It was a masterclass on how to counter a team that has to play on the front foot. That’s how Frank sets his team up c that’s why they he will inevitably be relegated next season. RLB ( a much more adaptive coach ) on the other hand defeats opposition coaches by having different strategies to suit.

It’s a big gap, they should win the league. It’s does seem to be a very poor division this season. Last year 4 clubs were going at it full throttle for the whole season albeit we did fade away for numerous reason in the spring.

If anyone hasn't seen the goals definitely watch the highlights when they get posted on YouTube to see the first Simms goal, ridiculous finish

It was a cracking finish, but aided by the keeper who was way too far across his goal

Outside of clubs with parachute money, Coventry are the biggest spenders in the Championship over the last few seasons combined.

It always gets overlooked but with the money they have spent, they'd want to be seriously challenging for promotion!
Is that true? I thought their net spend was really low because of Gyokeres and Hamer which was £40m.

As soon as I saw this thread my first thought was a clip that went around of some of their fans being a bit abusive towards ours outside the SOL before the semi final. It then cuts to the same fans at full-time crying. Work of art 😁

Well Simms was £7m and Hadji Wright £12m for starters
But their net spend is level. They’ve just spent the Gyokeres and Hamer money really.

This season the big difference has been Grimes (who is very good) and a new keeper because Collins was f***ing awful.

And let’s not forget they’re ten points clear without Rudoni who was their best player.

They’ll probably have a wobble in Jan as they really dont have squad depth, wright and Asante are injured. But Rudoni will be back. But they’ll win the league I suspect.

But fwiw I don’t think they have the spending power we had over summer and I think they will struggle next season in the PL. their owner is a Bob Murray type so I don’t know what money he has to splash. Maybe £80m or so but not &150m odd.

They've had a very similar path to us to be honest, should stand them in good stead if/when they go up.
I’m not sure what their recruitment plan is like. They won’t have a Ghisolfi type so I can’t see them signing the Diarras and Roefs. They might get a Xhaka type signing because of Frank’s pull and influence, but I don’t see them as being as deep and as competent in the head office, if that makes sense.

But I was saying this about us this time last season so who knows.

I know we are supposed to hate them and everything but I’ve been to a load of games with them and they are a decent and self deprecating bunch on the whole they don’t go on about how good they are, they’re generally worrying when it’s going to fall apart, so I do hope they go up and do well. They are very similar to us.

They were very competitive games. There was nowt controversial and we scored 3 fair goals over the two legs and you scored two fair goals. I didn't see Coventry creating much more than us either, for all your possession etc. We fully deserved it on that basis.

Turning to this season, it's a long season but you look different gravy to the rest of the league. Leicester were walking it the other year and nearly faltered at the end, but they had much better teams (Leeds, So'ton, and an on-fire Ipswich) breathing down their necks. I think you'll go up comfortably as champions.

Frank learnt a lot from those two games. We are a lot more ruthless and attack minded.

Boro battered us in the second half last night but Frank threw on Rudoni and Allen and it completely changed the game.

Spot on.

Grimes and Rushworth are the two Frank signings which have made the difference.

Lampard became a bit of a joke figure before this Coventry job and I could never understand why. Criminally underrated as a manager imo.

However there is always one team that runs away with it initially and then drop off the pace so anything can happen yet.
No way can I see Coventry slipping. Nearly 3 goals a game. Looking good for 110 points.

Spent their money plus a little extra, still isn't a huge spend but they're about 15/16 million down the last 3 seasons which is about the same as Boro.
Tbf they’re fleeing compared to everyone last season took 20 games for anyone to break 40 last season

Sheff UTD without their deduction would've been just 3 points behind them after 17 last season and Burnley 5 points behind. All 4 of us had more points than second do this season up to now. Coventry are absolutely flying as you say but Stoke would've been 5th and not 2nd
