Coventry

They had better xg in both games. It's ok to admit it, we still won.

You don't understand how xG works if you use it to decide who deserved to win a two-legged tie.

Where it might be over a full season of football, it's not objective over a short-span of games (ie. one game, or a two legged fixture). The easiest example would be if a team goes 3-0 up inside 10 minutes, they might just not bother attacking anymore and instead hold on to a clean sheet. If the opposition attacks for 80+ minutes and still lose 3-0, they may have more xG without being the better team.

Against Coventry in the away game we had a gameplan to keep a clean sheet and catch them on the break. We conceded once and caught them twice. In the away leg we were leading the tie for 76 minutes - ofcourse they'll be attacking more, therefore resulting in a higher xG. xG doesn't work for what you're trying to make it work for.

Fairplay to them, hell of a season so far!

Imagine their fans are frothing to get back after so many years away (be funny if they fucked it up, or went straight back down )

It’s Coventry! Who gives a flying **** what they do? Mickey Mouse nothing club who aren’t even relevant in the Midlands let alone anywhere else

When I met the other half, they were in the Championship and got relegated that season. Since then they’ve been down two leagues and back up again. I’ve been to League 2 games with them. Orient, Wycombe, Walsall, Chesterfield. I was at Dagenham and Redbridge when Kevin Kilbane scored a last minute penalty in the League Cup to win. :D

As much as I don’t like playing them, it will be nice to have an all-PL household for the first time. (Assuming neither of us monumentally fuck it up this season!)

Aye but with the greatest of respect, you’re deffo in the minority as a result of your other half  most on here would be delighted if they had a double relegation back to where they came, and we never heard of them again

We're you genuinely sitting comfortably after their goal at the sol though?

I thought we would have got through the home leg comfortably as they would have to attack and leave gaps but it didn't really happen. They'd changed something and looked a different beast in that second leg - until they left BDB unmarked.

I couldn't give a shiny shite about them and never have really. I've had as much disdain for them as I have the likes of Birmingham and Wolves over the years.

They spent £35m a few summers ago, it was using the Gyokeres and Hamer money but they should have been a lot closer to automatic promotion after that spend.

They should've but I think people are looking at how they'll be hamstrung by previous seasons spends in a similar fashion to Leeds v us in the summer. They shouldn't be really

No - I'd have been nervous however we were playing though with how tight it was.

My point was that using xG to decide who was the better team in a tie like that doesn't work, because xG changes depending on the game. The xG stats also show that we were by far the better team after their goal: 0.57xG to their 0.23xG in extra time alone. xG only really works over a long period, if you use it over a short period like one game, or a two-legged tie then you're suggesting that there's no game management, or changes as the game goes on - which RLB is notorious for.

If it’s Coventry and Boro who come up automatically, I’ll be fairly happy as long as we manage to stay up.

Another northern team through the playoffs would be welcome, but hopefully not Stoke.
