Coventry, Ipswich and Hull

That's why xG is ridiculous. I'll bet not all of your goals were worldies as well.

I questioned our xG in our recent 3-1 away win against Everton, it didn't make sense at all how low it was
Most of the shots were very good. 8 shots on target for 7 goals.

We've scored more from 30 yards than we have tapped in. That makes a big difference to the xG. We had 5 players that scored 10 or more league goals from all over the pitch.

Well in that case I can understand if your xG is low if you're banging in long range efforts.

Depends if they can spend the money needed, and attract players of the right calibre by showing them what their club is capable of. They'll also need to have several players in their team that can make the step up to Premier League level, especially in pace, strength and skill with less time on the ball.

They might also need to completely change the way they play - there's always one promoted club that struggles because the formation, style and dominance of possession that got them up evaporates at the start of August against top flight opposition. Whereas for us we got written off because in a lot of our matches in the Championship we won games despite not having the majority of possession - but that was exactly what we needed to be able to do when we came up

I don’t see any staying up tbh.

Almost like we learned nothing :D

I think it will as ever, depend what they do. I think Cov and Hull in particular are not burdened by high cost players the way Ipswich are, as neither would have realistically planned a promotion push this year. That means both have the same 'free hit' we had, in that - as long as they spend it reasonably well - they can spend all of their TV money to try and stay up, and there's no limits or financial burden in the long run. Go down? You sell those players and still take cash into the Championship, along with parachute payments.

The key (imo) is not overburdening your squad with PL veterans. Don't get me wrong, some experience helps, but they're far more expensive and have generally proved already that they're not worth another PL side taking a punt on if you go down. Go to Europe, buy wisely, and if you have the right manager, you can win, but even if you go down, if the players you've bought show some quality of any kind, then someone will buy them. Just be ready to cut and run on most of those players, and don't plan too far ahead.

They all seem fairly well run at the moment, but they may lack the contacts we had to get top tier European talent. Who knows what an Ed Sheeran personal appearance could sway though?

5000 Coventry getting a free ST next season. That's 1 in 6 of their home support next season. That isn't going to help their football related income under SCR. Around £3m gone before they start.

Lampard saying as recently as yesterday their Championship players deserve a chance.
£3m is nothing. I wish football fans would stop making excuses for fans being fleeced. Unbelievable gesture from Coventry. We could learn a thing from them and the Germans.

To bring more money from the ST's you could pay a bit more for your ticket, but on Promotion you got a free ST. That's where the 5,000 free tickets come from.

My original point stands then. £3m is 2% of our transfer fees. Club will spend a couple of hours arguing over fees like that. Just so much money in the game and its fans that get shafted constantly. Then people come out to bat for the clubs. Annoys me a bit.

It will be interesting to see how the stadium ownership changes things. I'm sure a bit of money lost on 'free' season tickets will be balanced out by the increasing number of events at the CBS.

I'm not expert on the current rules but it's clear Doug King sees the stadium as something that might help level the playing field.

Hard to know. There's clearly a good base of a squad if assume include Onyeka and Rushworth sign.

I've been adamant that we won't spend big but Doug King is very good at pulling out surprises.
You need 5+ 20m or thereabouts signings. Don’t and you go down. Get them in and you stay up. It’s pretty much that simple, plenty of data out there showing this exact correlation. Your squad may currently have 2-4 players good enough.

it probably has considering that of the 9 that qualified, only 3 got more points in the PL this season, the top 2 and spurs. the ones we were battling with all got 15-20 points less this season than last. whilst the non-europe clubs like brentford and bournemouth got more points

Arsenal +11
Man City +7
Liverpool -24
Chelsea -17
Newcastle -16
Nottm Forest -21
Aston Villa -1
Crystal Palace -8
Spurs +3

Being in Europe will impact our league season but using the points tally from the 2 previous seasons doesn't give the whole picture.

The league as a whole got less points last season as we didn't have the 3 absolutely inept relegated sides.

Forest obviously did a lot worse but I think their poor season was down to extremely poor management rather than because of the extra games. They finished the season very strongly, if those extra European games were the cause of their downturn in form I doubt they'd have finsihed as strongly.

Yeah the rot set in quickly on the eve of the season iirc. Forest's heed the ball owner appointed Edu as dof or similar and told Nuno he had to answer to him. Nuno basically downed tools.

Marinakis has supposedly fallen out with Edu recently and banned him from the training ground. Get the feeling Forest won't be far away from peril with this lunatic owner.
Yeah. Bottom 3 took 81 points this season. 2024/25 it was just 59. Only 5 more than we got!

Whilst he has ultimately got results he will be the reason for their downfall!

If they replace Anderson with Hackney they could be in bother.
