Coventry, Ipswich and Hull

Ah my bad.

Although would you say it benefited Sunderland and Leeds this year?

it probably has considering that of the 9 that qualified, only 3 got more points in the PL this season, the top 2 and spurs. the ones we were battling with all got 15-20 points less this season than last. whilst the non-europe clubs like brentford and bournemouth got more points

Arsenal +11
Man City +7
Liverpool -24
Chelsea -17
Newcastle -16
Nottm Forest -21
Aston Villa -1
Crystal Palace -8
Spurs +3

I have new neighbours two doors up, nice young couple, seemed quiet and friendly enough but admittedly not had much chance to chat to them yet. Cut to Monday evening and I saw the fella taking his little lad around for a walk, and the fucker was sporting a Coventry home shirt from this season. I live in Berkshire, and the house we just moved from last March, we had a permanently miserable NUFC fan directly opposite. No luck with neighbours, me.

Worst thing with him was, his missus (not from the "toon") was really nice and got on with my other half really well, so sometimes small talk had to be exchanged. Ugh.

Not sure what your pre conceived idea of a Cov fan is but I’m sure he will be fine, no different whatsoever from you Mackems just a different colour shirt.
Keep us posted with an update in a few months time 🤣

Just moved into a new house in Berkshire, so not too far away from my beloved Coventry Building Society Arena.
There's a strange old boy 2 doors up who I'll need to keep an eye on.
He's got a black cat called Ballard and he speaks in what sounds a bit like a "Jordi" accent.
Got a nice car too, just bought off ebay.

He came round last night with an awful looking pink dessert to welcome us.
I think he'll be fine when I get to know him better.

Coventrys owner was repulsed by us selling our identity and stopping up. Best get over himself and buy a few
Ours is the model to follow. Simply have to be ruthless. My Hull supporting mate was saying their owner wants to follow our model. Difference with us is it’s been in place since league one.
I cant see spurs or forest being so close to relegation next season. Be tough for them to stay up but we shouldn't write them off. Hull are probably in the best position to do what we done and buy a whole new team.
We are getting back to the 38- 40 points to guarentee safety days.

Probably all the extra games we have to play taking their toll. It’s just a massive assumption.
Extra games and they will use Xg in the algorithm to set the opening show.
Do you think it will make things difficult for Sunderland and Bournemouth?
The short answer is yes. More game this must increase the strain of the season. It should be mitigated by, one assumes, both having a plan in place should qualification be achieved.
Bournemouth seem to have a plan for most things. Sunderland didn’t simply come up with the recruitment plan overnight.
Neither will be in a relegation fight.
Of the Europa sides Palace might. That is based solely on not knowing who they replace Glasner with. If it is Iraola they will also be fine. If any of the promoted sides stay up it will be a big achievement. As others have said the gap is huge. Spurs and Forest (if the keep there core and invest the Anderson cash well) will both be stronger. Going to be a big ask. Hull will need to replicate what Sunderland did. Coventry and Ipswich will need to recruit well and change style.

To be quite conservative you have to assume at least two promoted teams will go back down.

Somebody will get pulled into something stressful, Fulham, Newcastle, us, Palace, Leeds etc.

As I've said before, I want Ipswich to do well, but not at our expense. Having recently been in the Premier they might be able to cope.

I actually think Coventry will do the worst of the three. Lampard will bugger off as well mid season if/when he gets a better offer elsewhere.

We are in a group with Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Palace....any of those teams could have problems. Bournemouth better hope the new manager is good or they will sink. Palace don't even have a manager! Recruit well and we can start the season strongly again.

If we recruit we'll would expect us to fine. It will have an effect with not much prep time for the Sunday games

But on the plus side a lot of our squad have played in Europe either Europa league or champions league.

After last summer fully trust the recruitment team interested to see if you go for maybe 3/4 higher quality of 6 of the similar 20-25 bracket.

Fully expect us to look abroad as so little value in signings already in the premier especially if English.

Their xG numbers were worse than Oxford and would have had them relegated.

Unreal
You just have to love the xG comments 😂

The one thing to our advantage is how we now attack with players turning up late like Lampard did in his playing days. We have several players that can put the ball away. When we beat QPR 7-1 our xG was only 1.11
Coventry will finish bottom for me. Doug King already came out and dampened expectations. As a club they will think not a lot of work needs to be done.
Do you think it would be wise for King to say we have a lot of money to spend, even if we do?

And what does he mean by not doing it the Sunderland way? Not selling a player for 30m?

Players turning up late, you must be on a wind up 🤣

It's difficult to have an opinion on them at the moment as their squads will be completely different come the start of the season.

Would be nice to see Coventry get splattered. They have a decent foundation though and Lampard's done a good job there.

Ipswich were awful when they were last in the PL, we'll soon see if they've learned from their past mistakes.

I think I'd be most surprised if Hull survive out of the three, the same will have been said about us last season by people who didn't have a clue about our club. That said, many of our fans agreed, which I found odd.

That's why xG is ridiculous. I'll bet not all of your goals were worldies as well.

I questioned our xG in our recent 3-1 away win against Everton, it didn't make sense at all how low it was.

As someone that expects us to struggle more in the league as a result of our Europa League involvement, I actually find that breakdown quite reassuring.

Liverpool and Chelsea's issues have been well documented and are unlikely to be attributable to European involvement. Newcastle, possibly, though their recruitment was so poor it's hard to judge. Forest and Palace would be the cautionary tales - the -8 points of the latter I could happily live with, for Forest would they have been so badly off if they hadn't have churned through four managers in the season? Would we likely be as unstable? KLD is hardly Marinakis.

someone on a forum i was reading earlier in the week said that on average, teams that qualify for europe who weren't in europe the previous season, end with an average of 9 less points.

still would be sound for us to get 45+ points if we went far into europa
