County cricket to blame???

harmy

Well that’s another embarrassing series defeat from the Aussies.

Time to look at the foundation of the county game.

Playing against 70/80 mph green top bowlers in the county championship is just not good enough preparation to play away series against top class fast bowling. Playing county cricket in April may and September will never get us competing against quick bowling.

Need to forget all this one day stuff 100,t20 stuff and focus on the basic game again.

FTECB are to blame.

They make the decisions as to how the county game operates and it is they who have fucked the domestic game. Prioritising white ball cricket and chasing the coin is the reason county red ball cricket has regressed.

No, Root is too blame, pure and simple

There’s too many stereotypes like, most wickets aren’t green tops like.

The ball moves in England more due to the weather.

How come Australia can compete then especially with the big bash so popular????
The Aussies are pretty bad though. Harris looks streaky, Carey doesn't look a patch on Gilchrist or even Haddin and when Smith & Warner retire they doesn't look like they is anyone to replace them. They have got some great bowlers but they always will but that Aussie top 7 look like a pale imitation of previous years

The Aussies are good like, especially at home

They have 2 blokes averaging 60+, an opener averaging just under 50 and a gun bowling attack. Cummins in particular is an all time great

I said they have some great bowlers. Smith and Warner are obviously class but how long are they going to be around. Labuschane has a great average but that's based on 20 tests, I remember when Pujara had the best average based on a great start to his test career that levelled out over time.
Harris, Carey & Green don't look a patch on previous Aussie players.

Saw an interview with Mark Ramprakash about 3-4 years ago, talking about coaching young batsmen at first class counties. He recalled his time when all batsmen knew how many runs they had scored in a season and they all knew their "average".
The batters he was coaching did not know how many runs they had scored and did not have a clue what their average was.........BUT they all knew their "runs per 100 balls".
Clear intrusion of limited overs cricket and it can only get worse.
We need some "white ball" cricket to generate money.....but do we need 3 formats in this country alone ?

Aye what I mean is stick Smith in our side and it would be no better imo

It would like

Smith and root together would make such a difference

I’m torn over these arguments

People now talking like England have been bad for years and years

Well we’ve been bad this year

Before this we’ve been pretty good. Not the best in the world but outside the top couple

I remember when we used to regularly beat the Aussies they’d hold these big reviews about what they could learn to improve English team and what they could take from English cricket

The pitches thing has some merits but it’s a myth to say the majority of pitches in England are all green

I’d say a big problem rather than all that is that ambition of the best young batting talents in the country is to be white ball players, that’s where the money is. That’s not just the ECB’s fault, the IPL exists, white ball is the most popular format in the world, of course they want to be part of it

Problem for us is that test cricket is by far the most popular format in this country

This, I'm only really interested in local and County Cricket atm.
