County Cricket 2026

Well I enjoyed my 2 and a bit hours down Grace Road. Tattersall getting out in the penultimate over yesterday all but killed my hopes of maybe seeing the game extend towards tea.

Leicestershire look painfully short of Div 1 standard. I’d say they’re weaker than last year.

Once you get the openers out there’s not much there, especially with Ahmed swanning off to warm a bench in the IPL. Eskinazi has looked good so far this season though.

The less said about the bowling attack the better.

Supposed promotion challengers Derbyshire beaten completely by bottom clubs Kent and Gloucestershire. Think Northants are looking genuine challengers

It’s very worrying for Derbyshire, a lot of people fancied them for a promotion push. It mirrors what happened in our promotion year iirc, Micky Arthurs made a bold statement that they would go all year unbeaten (or some other incredibly confident prediction) and as it transpired they didn’t win a game til July or summit mental.
Hoist with your own petard is the appropriate expression,I believe

Leach’s injury absolutely killed them, but I have to say, the pitch wasn’t particularly helpful to the spinners (not compared to some of their previous work). Somerset just batted absolutely terribly when facing it. They went completely into their shells and missed out on a lot of freebies by simply patting back quite a lot of poor balls.

Yeah The Cricketer talked about this finally being Derbyshire's year.

I can’t emphasise enough how disappointed I was that he made the decision to go there.

It still might be, one win and they’re right back in the mix - especially when their next game is at home to Northants.

There’s really not that much in it at this point, it’s frustrating given how good we’ve been through four games that we’re only one bad week away from dropping down to fourth.

Abbas looked like a real statement signing but so far hasnt made much of an impact.

Handscomb a massive loss for them both in terms of his batting and captaincy.

Albeit Weatherald done well as his replacement with the bat in the previous games.
