County Cricket 2026

Jamie Smith has made himself undroppable for the test team with the start he’s had.

Be interesting to see what we do for the first test of the summer. Smith has scored a truck load of runs at three with no gloves while Bethell sits on the bench in the IPL.

Possibility one of them opens and someone else has the gloves at 7?

Whilst I generally support the idea of substitutes in four day cricket, I worry the start of the season has seen far too many teams/players taking advantage of it.

It may just be a freak number of injuries.

But feels suspicious when you factor in the rule that they just have sit out 8 days.

So if a team doesn't play within that time, the player might be fine for the next game and has been done to take advantage of that loophole.

Neither of the injured players are allowed to play next week though. You have to sit out for 8 days if replaced.

Despite the farce of their situation that i've outlined on the Will Smeed thread. Nothing necessarily untoward

Notts have replaced Fergus O'Neill today for Lyndon James after former had played a starring role for them.

James has then took 2 in 2 overs and broken a defiant 17 over blockathon from Dickson and Cooke. Notts now will definitely win their game.

Notts don't play next week so the injury sub feels more them playing the game under the new rules.
That's a rotten example of gamesmanship.

People were in a rush to promote him to 3 after last summer.

Just leave him where he is. Bethell rightly deserves to have a go at 3 after Sydney as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same top 7 that finished that game that starts the summer. Despite Crawley/Duckett having put up 86 runs from 6 digs so far.

That's why I would tweak it so they miss the next CC game regardless of when that is.

I believe Yorkshire have replaced two players in their game, due to ‘illness’. Now in an ideal world I support being able to do that, but it would have been interesting to see if they’d have continued to play a part in the match if there wasn’t a rule allowing substitutions.

I’d certainly feel that way if it happened to us.

Agreed would stop any gamesmanship over it.

In our Division:

Derbyshire need 65 more to beat Lancashire with 6 wickets remaining.

It’s raining at Kent, with the hosts 5 down and miles away from parity.

In the first division Sussex won the game thanks to an epic unbroken fifth wicket stand between Leaning and Price. They came together with the team needing 144 to win.

Notts as mentioned look likely to beat Glamorgan, they need 3 wickets in two sessions as do Hampshire at Yorkshire.
Sir James Anderson gets a wicket three balls into his second spell.
Cracking game this at Old Trafford. Derbyshire now 5 down still needing 61 to win.

Tbh can’t see anything other than Bethell at 3 and Snith at 7
