Aye, I can't understand the signing that well (can only imagine they think we've lost Atkinson for good, and Roach/Abbott won't re-sign).
I just nibble at the "Surrey signing more players" shite when a) everyone makes signings, and b) we've arguably got the best academy in the country at the moment, that we prioritise above all else, especially when you look at our track record of bringing excellent players through in the last few years

Durham could justifiable make that claim until recently but now it's being neglected in favour of buying in.
However,If Surrey now have the best pathway,I don't disagree with that claim,why do they need to buy-in so many. Abbot,Clark,Foakes,Lawrence,Overton,Roach,Steel and Worrall form the nucleus of your team and none are academy products?

They've batted with a top 4 of Sibley, Burns, Pope and Smith for most of this season all homegrown.

They've produced the most for England apart from maybe Yorkshire for England since the Ashes in 2005.

Post Ashes debuts ones in bold played tests(I did this a while back before Atkinson/Smith played tests)

Durham: Plunkett, Mustard, Onions, Stokes ,Borthwick, Wood , Stoneman, Jennings, Potts, Carse

Surrey: Dernbach, Meaker, Carberry, Jordan, Ansari, Roy, Curran, Curran, Pope, Burns, Sibley, Jacks, Atkinson, Smith

I'll have to pull out Yorkshire too

Whitgift and Cranleigh schools grown surely😀. I acknowledge that Surrey have a strong pathway but,nevertheless, the core of their present CC team have been bought in.

5 of their last 11 in the CC were homegrown. Sibley, Burns, Smith, Patel, Lawes

They signed Foakes when he was 21 and made his debut at 22. Carse was 20/21 during his first summer with us signed from elsewhere.

I'd argue both clubs can claim the development of each player to an extent.

The point about private schools very much a good one. Always going to be harder for some counties to grow the same talent.

My comments were intended to be a bit tongue in cheek.Carse didn't come through the Academy but neither had he any 1st class experience when he came to Durham-as a teenager playing for Burnmoor, I believe. Foakes had 3 years at Essex,sufficiently established to be selected for 2 England Lions tours,before being signed by Surrey so the 2 situations aren't comparable.
I wouldn't deny Surrey have a good youth set up, helped undoubtedly by having 2 cricket centred independent schools as feeders. Pity is Durham appear to have regressed lately as an academy.I think we're missing Geoff Cook who was a proven talent spotter.

A win on Wednesday and we're in the quarter finals, there's no reason why we can't go on to win it.

If we win and lancs beat Worcs then we'll end up with a home quarter final on Friday.
 
Northants have signed Indian spinner Chahal for the remainder of the season, and in his first game today he currently has figures of 4/10 from 5 overs against Kent :lol:
 
I was going to watch the end of the Leics v Hants One Day QF but I think they charge for streaming now.

Trevaskis with an unbeaten 60 to get Leicestershire into the semis. Looks like he's had a useful tournament this year, mainly with the ball
