I always thought it was a strange appointment.Benks coaching cv must look pretty pap.Sack him. I'd have him back at Durham as batting coach in a flash.
Yeh,Durham have made some really good signings in recent years None though have come with a permanent sick note like FisherAye, never seen Durham signing players eh
Aye, I can't understand the signing that well (can only imagine they think we've lost Atkinson for good, and Roach/Abbott won't re-sign).Yeh,Durham have made some really good signings in recent years None though have come with a permanent sick note like Fisher
Durham could justifiable make that claim until recently but now it's being neglected in favour of buying in.Aye, I can't understand the signing that well (can only imagine they think we've lost Atkinson for good, and Roach/Abbott won't re-sign).
I just nibble at the "Surrey signing more players" shite when a) everyone makes signings, and b) we've arguably got the best academy in the country at the moment, that we prioritise above all else, especially when you look at our track record of bringing excellent players through in the last few years
They've batted with a top 4 of Sibley, Burns, Pope and Smith for most of this season all homegrown.Durham could justifiable make that claim until recently but now it's being neglected in favour of buying in.
However,If Surrey now have the best pathway,I don't disagree with that claim, why do they need to buy-in so many. Abbot,Clark,Foakes,Lawrence,Overton,Roach,Steel and Worrall form the nucleus of your team and none are academy products?
Whitgift and Cranleigh schools grown surelyThey've batted with a top 4 of Sibley, Burns, Pope and Smith for most of this season all homegrown.
They've produced the most for England apart from maybe Yorkshire for England since the Ashes in 2005.
Post Ashes debuts ones in bold played tests(I did this a while back before Atkinson/Smith played tests)
Durham: Plunkett, Mustard, Onions, Stokes ,Borthwick, Wood , Stoneman, Jennings, Potts, Carse
Surrey: Dernbach, Meaker, Carberry, Jordan, Ansari, Roy, Curran, Curran, Pope, Burns, Sibley, Jacks, Atkinson, Smith
I'll have to pull out Yorkshire too
5 of their last 11 in the CC were homegrown. Sibley, Burns, Smith, Patel, LawesWhitgift and Cranleigh schools grown surely. I acknowledge that Surrey have a strong pathway but, nevertheless, the core of their present CC team have been bought in.
My comments were intended to be a bit tongue in cheek.Carse didn't come through the Academy but neither had he any 1st class experience when he came to Durham-as a teenager playing for Burnmoor, I believe. Foakes had 3 years at Essex, sufficiently established to be selected for 2 England Lions tours, before being signed by Surrey so the 2 situations aren't comparable.5 of their last 11 in the CC were homegrown. They signed Foakes when he was 21 and made his debut at 22. Carse was 20/21 during his first summer with us signed from elsewhere.
I'd argue both clubs can claim the development of each player to an extent.
The point about private schools very much a good one. Always going to be harder for some counties to grow the same talent.
Yes very fairMy comments were intended to be a bit tongue in cheek.Carse didn't come through the Academy but neither had he any 1st class experience when he came to Durham-as a teenager playing for Burnmoor, I believe. I wouldn't deny Surrey have a good youth set up, helped undoubtedly by having 2 cricket centred independent schools as feeders. Pity is Durham appear to have regressed lately as an academy.I think we're missing Geoff Cook who was a proven talent spotter.

Yeah course just mad that you've got a 32 year old Matt Dunn probably well paid to just play the One Day Cupten home grown, mind
Look at the amount of players we lose over the course of a season - Tests, white ball, IPL, Hundred, Lions - there is certainly an argument that it's fair enoughYou've effectively got 3 completely different attacks per competition.

A win on Wednesday and we're in the quarter finals, there's no reason why we can't go on to win it.What a match that was down in Kent.
3rd in the table now so win our final game and we at least get to play the eliminator or whatever it's called.
Trevaskis with an unbeaten 60 to get Leicestershire into the semis. Looks like he's had a useful tournament this year, mainly with the ballI was going to watch the end of the Leics v Hants One Day QF but I think they charge for streaming now.
Warks v Worcs it is then.
Aye I was trying to find it. Wankers charging nearly £4 a stream.I was going to watch the end of the Leics v Hants One Day QF but I think they charge for streaming now.
