County Cricket 2023

The new regime and new approach by England really starting to now influence the county teams and their approach to games imo.

Which is great for the game going forward and the fans watching these entertaining and attacking games

If the alleged reason for using the Kookaburra was to give the England players experience of it, it was an utterly pointless exercise scheduling the 2 CC rounds when it was to be used during the Ashes series when they weren’t playing.

I suspect the true motivation was that Strauss thought it might give Dukes a kick up the @rse after the substandard balls they produced last year.

I was sitting in front of the scoreboard on Wednesday and when he was fielding in front of us, Pretorius was saying the ball was soft and he was getting no bounce out of it, and had no idea why they were using it.

the kookaburra experiment is quite simply a load of old nonsense.... like everything that Strauss got involved in. What a nugget that man is. I rather liked him as a player, but as an administrator he was.... I was going to say hopeless, but he wasn't hopeless at all.... he was pernicious. The man had an agenda and that agenda had nothing to do with cricket and everything to do with finance. If he hadn't been the beneficiary of a general upwelling of sympathy for the terrible tragedy in his life, he'd have been out of a job years before he could have done any damage

Tories gonna Tory 🤷‍♂️

One thing I noticed on the Div 1 table that I found astonishing - Nine games played and Middlesex have 2 batting points while Northants only have the 1.
I find it’s interesting that players who have scored prolifically for years, get their England chance and don’t make the step up then go back to county cricket and perform nowhere near as well ever again. Robson (despite his ton in this game) Stoneman, Burns has had shocker this year, Lyth, Carberry. Perhaps it’s hard to go back to the day job and find the desire and intensity so fair play to Lees who has been better than ever this year.

He has played 5 1st class games, 7 wickets ave 38. Played 85 T20 Games 104 wickets, economy 9.53.

Was canny highly rated when he 1st came onto scene doing well in the blast iirc but hasn’t come anywhere close to fulfilling that potential as of yet due to injury.

Hopefully a fresh move can help him, still young.

Thinking about heading down to Cheltenham next Wednesday for Glos v Wuss. It’s either that, Edgbaston or Trent Bridge. I’d have gone to watch Durham if it was at Headingley but Scarborough is 3 hours away from me.

Leicestershire bowled out Worcestershire for 178 but we're reduced to 88/8 in their innings.

Sussex ended the day 120/6 against Yorkshire.

So despite Durham struggling today it's better news elsewhere.
