Could we lose a generation of supporters to the Mags?

If anyone chooses the mags instead of us they can Fuck off.

And if any parent allows it they can double fuck off. Guess it’s to be expected in the outer lying 50/50 areas for kids who might have parents not really into football, but within Sunderland proper east of the a19 no chance and if any parent who is a proper fan - as I say they can double fuck off.

Of course we will, this will be 10 times worse than 1992. They're going to be playing football manager with infinite money, signing superstars while we pissfart about with the chuckle brothers pulling the strings.

Its not that easy though. All my mates growing up were Newcastle fans so I could never go to the match with them. I only went to the match with my dad a hand full of times and then my uncle took me for 5 seasons as a season ticket holder.

if you are from sunderland its probably easy to make your kids support us. but if you are from other areas then how do you convice your kids its better to watch sundeland than newcastle?
I'm not from Sunderland. I'm from South Shields, and there were plenty who jumped on the Keegan bandwagon when I was at school having been Sunderland 'fans' a year or two earlier. I looked at them with disdain. We had Buxton & Butcher in those years while they had Beardsley & Cole and European football, I never once considered switching sides.

Generally yes, but peer pressure may come into play in the teenage years. If a kid is constantly having the piss taken, they may just fold. Once they get caught up in the big atmosphere it may be appealing.
This has happened to a couple of my eldest’s mates. They just want to go to the match with their mates. I’ve got to admit when the final whistle blew on Tuesday I looked at my eldest and felt guilty for inflicting us on him and sad for the crap he was going to have to put up with at school.

Probably in the surrounding areas that are fickle and are happy to bandwagon jump.

Personally can see football changing drastically in the next twenty to thirty years time and looking like the American market where you have 1-2 league's and then the lower league's will become their colege style league but for us it'll be as feeder clubs for the top teams. Already happening in that the top teams buy up any bright prospect and just loan them out.

We're seeing more clubs struggle to stay afloat as it's increasingly difficult to be a sustainable football club unless your a top team. Just gotta hope with our support, hIstory and facilities on place that we have enought onride the storm and end up in the upper tier instead of a feeder club.

I reckon the worst will happen. It'll not just be Mags from Durham etc taking the piss though but you'll get people from all over the country supporting them if they start doing well. Imagine being in say Preston wearing a Sunderland top and some no mark plastic Mag bellends start taking the piss out of you.

Apart from strict fathers pushing Sunderland on there kids it’s a real possibility that more will turn to them lot.

Just ask them where they are from and then tell them to piss off. Job done.

Again, this. Are these kids going to be paying to watch the mags with their own money? I'd no more pay for my son to watch the mags than I would buy him an air rifle to shoot puppies with.

I feel sad for your lad just reading that. I despise the succession of incompetent owners and managers who have destroyed this once proud club and its supporters.

I’d hope it’s less prevalent in Sunderland itself but the outlying areas is where I expect a lot of the damage will probably be done. Growing up, my mum’s family lived in Boldon and from what I can remember, there was a real split at the turn of the millennium. With us languishing and Newcastle potentially progressing, buying names that kids have heard of from FIFA, they’ll sweep up kids who don’t have strong family links to any/either club.
