Could we lose a generation of supporters to the Mags?

If the Mags become a regular top 4 club then yeah. If they just 'do an Everton' then not really, out kids will just support Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Utd etc.

The sad and disconcerting point to consider is this - over the next 5 years or so do we risk losing a generation of younger fans to the Mags? Unfortunately I would say this is a real possibility.

All the lads at work are high as a kite about it all. Its so hard for me to not let it get to me. Its gonna be torture over the coming years haha
 
More likely we’ll just lose thousands of potential supporters who in the absence of a credible local side will do other things on a weekend.

It’s happened already to a degree. People who are hacked off with the ineptness of the club gradually drift away and find they’re are far more rewarding ways to spend a Saturday afternoon that don’t end with inevitable disappointment

Its not that easy though. All my mates growing up were Newcastle fans so I could never go to the match with them. I only went to the match with my dad a hand full of times and then my uncle took me for 5 seasons as a season ticket holder.

if you are from sunderland its probably easy to make your kids support us. but if you are from other areas then how do you convice your kids its better to watch sundeland than newcastle?

Yes just like we did when keegan was there and they were everyone’s second team, except we didn’t, we dug in and if anything the support became more ingrained, so logically probably, in reality not a chance, we might lose some glory hunting ***** but who wants them anyway.
 
It’s not about them lot up the road. After the last week they’ve lost me, fan for 30 years. Thought of watching us now turns my stomach. Good luck to Dan Neil, Ross Steward and Elliot Embleton, thanks for giving me the chance, this season, to be excited about the future of our club and be proud of my team. If I were you lads I’d get yourselves a good move in the summer and not look back. To Speakman, KLD and the other 2 no mans hope someone shoves barbed wire up where the sun don’t shine!
 
Lets be honest if you are a young kid from this region who has no family input on who you support there's only going to be one choice.
 
I don't think so. For a start we are still shit, and could very easily be a Championship club next season. Whatever happens we are years away from winning stuff, and that's if it ever happens given the other teams who are spending big and a bigger draw for players then us. Then on top of that, in that time your fortunes could easily change, whilst kids generally support the team of their parents.

Having said that, it is scary the amount of kids wearing Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City shirts etc. No chance I would allow it!

Generally yes, but peer pressure may come into play in the teenage years. If a kid is constantly having the piss taken, they may just fold. Once they get caught up in the big atmosphere it may be appealing.
 
The impact of us not getting promoted/losing Keane, and the Mags staying up will be massive...they will sign some top quality players in the Summer if they stay up like :neutral:
