Cortisone Injection

K3NA

Midfield
Need one in my left shoulder for a nerve impingement. The pain is f**king unreal at the moment.
Had loads of physio but not sorting it so told this morning to see my doctor for an injection.
Has anyone had one before ?
Did it work ?
How long from seeing doctor to getting the injection ?
Did doctor do it or did you need referring to the hospital ?

TIA

I’ve been waiting weeks for the one doctor who can do it at my surgery to be available. I imagine the hospital waiting list will be months.

Everyone I have spoke to have said it does mask the pain but they can tell when they ready for another one , through time like everything I suppose they do not have the same effect.
Good luck though mate and hope it goes well 👍.

Had a frozen shoulder, never knew what one was. Had pain for months, worked with aggressive patients in hospital. Sent for xray the scan. Within a month occupation therapy. Had cortisone injection every 2 weeks for 2 months Absolutely knacked.

Had one in my foot and it f**king knacked, but that will depend on how deep they have to go to get to the source of the pain.

I didn't have to go to hospital for it like.

Had one in me left knee. Waste of time. Works for a couple of days but not enough to allow running or going for a long walk.

And it hurt a bit getting it. Mind, I have it on good authority that the smaller the joint, the more it hurts. Supposedly, knuckles are very painful if you get a steroid injection

I had one in my foot @LewisLad but they numbed the area beforehand. Did they not do that for you? It was to relieve my plantar fasciitis. Had 2, first one didn't work so they topped it up with a 2nd injection a couple of weeks later, but I was told if that didn't work it was tough look as that's all the NHS would give me. Luckily it worked enough.

He did but he said as he had to go through other bits in the ball of my foot it would knack either way. He had ultra sound on as he was doing it to make sure the needle went in the right bit so I could see him wiggling it around as I was in agony

And then the other side!

bad news, I think your doctor was some form of sadist  I hope it least sorted you out.

I've had two in my shoulder, probably about six years apart. GP did them both times there and then when I was complaining about the pain, but I had been to see him about it in previous appointments before he decided on the injection.

It was probably about another six years from that second injection before I got any more pain in the shoulder. It didn't come back as bad though, some physio sorted it out.

I’ve had an ultrasound led one in my hip about 4 weeks ago.

Didn’t hurt, but then again I’m rock hard.

Went in 1pm and was home by 4.30pm honestly it’s been amazing proper changed my life. I waited about 8 weeks once seeing Dr Kontai in the pain clinic.

I've had 5 in total, one in thumb and the other four in my back. None of them really helped and the last two I had in my back actually made the pain worse. Also when you sign the consent forms it says it's more for exploratory purposes more than pain relief.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I've been getting physio twice a week but it's not helping so we have decided to try a cortisone injection.
Will call my doctors first thing tomorrow and see if I can get a day appointment otherwise i could wait till after xmas 🤣

Wife had one a while ago, painless enough but didn't help with her shoulder.
When to a specialist at the Spire who did a guided one using x-rays and fixed it for about 3 months.
After the injection the pain was worse for about a week until it settled down from having a needle rammed in there.

She went back when the pain returned and she waiting for an operation to file off an inch of bone to restore the gap.
