Cork Area

Without doubt (and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise) West Cork is the nicest part of Ireland. The stretch of coast from Clonakilty all the way to Castletownbere is stunning. The food and drink is better than anywhere I've been and the scenery is amazing. The last bus from Skibbereen to Cork is a t7.30pm and the town is only starting up then!!!!The public bus from Skibbereen to Cork also takes 2hrs!!! Seaside villages like Glandore, Union Hall Castletownshend, Baltimore, Ballydehob Schull all need to be visited and that is not really possible using the bus. They tend to be the best spots for pubs and restaurants. Also you have some gorgeous off shore islands like Sherkin, Cape Clear and Bere Island that should be visited. Any chance you could hire a car? £20-£30 a day and it will save you money on Taxis.

Another factor is the time of year you are planning to travel. West Cork really comes alive in the summer with festivals etc but can be a bit quiet at winter time.
Cork City is your only option really if you don't have a car. Cork is a great little city for pubs and restaurants but some are only just opening up now again after covid restrictions. Day trips are possible but you really won't get the most out of the trip.

The one thing to be aware of is the money! Ireland is an expensive place to live (Best price pint €5).

If you need any more info just ask me.
Not a patch on kerry 😉

Thanks mate. No driving isn’t an option sadly, I realise the severely limits options but it’s just the way it has to be

You think that few places might still not be open yet after Covid? Last thing I want is rocking up somewhere and everywhere shut. Was gonna go next week but tempted to wait a month.

What you reckon?

Craic on: Cork pubs happy to be back

https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/arid-40791636.html
Cork News Cork Crime Cork ... the new rules were clearly daunting for some and a whole new experience for some of her staff who had never worked in a pub pre-Covid. “They really enjoyed the banter and serving four deep at the bar! It felt absolutely amazing to be back in full swing!” The large attendance at the launch of the second

What do people make of it, Cork City and towards West Cork?

Thinking of a last minute trip, as Ireland has opened up without restrictions. Been to Cork before briefly and enjoyed it.

Was thinking of just Cork City then a few little towns like Clonakilty and Skibbereen that I can bus to.

Not looking for a life changing trip, just few BnBs, pubs, music and laughs.

Not driving, which is a shame in Ireland I know, so needs to be trip like that.

I did think about flying to Dublin and then on to Galway, then see the cliffs to aran islands.

Always worth an ask on SMB like.
Bit of a bottle-neck I've heard

Favourable mention for Cobh. Plenty Hotel / B&B options as well.
Cathedral to visit and the heritage centre and a few bars as well. Can get train 30 minutes from Cork Station.
Def worth a visit.

In Cork City there will be no problem with pubs and restaurants open, only in the quieter rural areas. Last weekend with the lifting of restrictions the city was hopping. If it was me I would wait a month before coming. Beginning of March would be a much nicer time to visit Cork.........then there is always St Patrick Day 17th March. We are getting an extra Bank Holiday this year to celebrate Covid?!?! so that night be worth looking at. Paddys weekend can be a bit manic though

Kerry, as far as natural beauty is hard to beat mind, the drive from Cork to Kerry feels like you’re in another world as you pass through the mountains. I love Cork but Kerry is Ireland’s secret.
Cracking post though as you would expect me to say Kerry is actually the best place in Ireland but West Cork is a very close second!

😎😎

Fishing for Kerrymen is great fun! They're like the Mags when you mention SAFC is a bigger club with more titles!!!

Re fishing coming from the man who once admitted to me that he he leanings towards Kerry as West Cork is closer to the Kingdom than to the city of Cork!
😂🤣😂

That aside it will good to see your little brother for the Wimbledon game.

Have you any plans of coming over?

I am taking my camper van across in May , can't bloody wait now having read this post. My mam was from near Ballydhob. I have never been to Ireland i so can't wait.
Ballydehob is a great little village. Some of the best pubs and restaurants in West Cork.

I've heard people have really been impressed with what they do. If you need any tips or advice before arriving contact me. My parents have a camper van and know all the best spots around.

Would love to come over with my young fella but struggling to get time off work at the moment. Hopefully before the end of the season we might get over for a promotion party ;)

I've eaten in Ahearnes & while I wasn't looking forward to it before we went, because it's supposed to be a bit of a posh place, I have to admit, the food was 2nd to none.

& the pub you're talking about is called Moby Dick's. I was there a couple of months ago. It’s a bit grim inside but people don't seem to mind & it gets lots of tourists, as well as locals.
Did they still have the piano player in Aherne's? He was playing a selection of 'pop hits' in a sort of drunken pub piano player style. He was terrible if truth be known, but good crack trying to pick out what he was murdering. Aye the pub is a bit bare, not much in there, but I liked the booths you could sit in, and the Murphy's just kept coming over and a few whiskies... bliss. We got in company with a few old fellas and matched them drink for drink. We were there until about 2 in the morning and I had to be supported by my two mates on the short stagger back to the B&B, Walked into a door frame when entering the building and gave myself a lovely shiner which I sported at the hurling next day. This was 20 years or so ago now, still one of the best long weekends I've had in my life. Between Thursday morning and Monday after noon when I got back I reckon I shifted North of 80 pints of Murphy's stout. Also managed 10 holes at Fota Island golf before the heavens opened and we were forced off. Magical place.

Cheers for the reply mate. Yeah I think that’s a good suggestion maybe let things settle down and I can plan it properly. Was literally gonna book a flight for tomorrow haha

Will go to game instead. Aye I’ll look at flights for March.

Basically I wanna go to end up in a schull as last stop.

I have a few towns in mind, which I’m sure are popular. If you had a week how much is too much you reckon. A town or village a day? Or maybe like 3 places with 2 days each?

Very much be a journey in morning, long walk in the afternoon and local pub in night for a bit chat on
