Out of curiosity, how many players who were playing in League one at 20 go on to make top players? Vardy is the only that springs to mind instantly.

Beardsley was the talk of the NE before he even went to Canada/USA. Even then he had to come back to Carlisle while Newcastle played Keegan, Waddle and Varadi. Madness.
