Coffee shops in Sunderland

Costa does a very nice coffee. Mcdonalds is up there too. Of course you can't beat the atmosphere of a nice indie coffee shop.

Me too. Never understood the appeal of sitting in them.
Maybe it's a social thing like going to the pub to meet friends. Not everyone likes pubs so maybe a coffee shop is a substitute.
When did coffee shops become a big thing in the UK? I'm wondering if the tv show Friends helped start it.

Lloyd's of London started out as a coffee house back in the 17c, so it's been a while.

Well yes obviously there's always been places that sold hot drinks. Though tea was more popular here than coffee. I was talking about the current explosion and craze. Probably clever marketing from the likes of Costa.

Still the best coffee shop.
There's plenty of coffee shops that serve better quality coffee than Wetherspoons man. I've took advantage of the free refills myself when I've been away on lads weekends and we've just ducked into the nearest Spoons for a cheap breakfast but it's just bog standard coffee.
