With the first weeks fixtures this weekend what do you all think about the prospects for the season. Will Boldon get their third title in a row, How will Seaham Park do after their close season difficulties off the pitch.

Will teams be marking time, investing in facilities rather than pros?

Will Murton ever come back to former glories?

Will the two teams heading for the NEPL2 go out with a bang or a whimper?

This weeks fixtures (if it stops raining!) are:

Seaham Park vs Easington
Silksworth Vs Murton
Bill Quay Vs ryhope
Boldon CA Vs Dawdon
Peterlee Vs Seaham Harbour
Washington Vs Hylton.

Ok folks over to you.

Boldon will win it IMO - they have a lot of experience in their side and bat very low with Tommy Nixon often coming in at number 8. Seaham Park will be kept off the bottom by their pro but will still finish bottom three a mon avis.

This will be Bill Quay's approach but I can only speak for us - unfortunately experience tells me that too many clubs will spend money on players who, quite frankly, don't make a big enough difference to warrant it. My personal opinion is that there isn't a single "pro" in the Coast League who warrants their money, and hasn't been since Calvin left Murton.

Will Murton ever come back to former glories?

They will be top five in my opinion. I rate John Sample as possibly the best all round cricketer in the league (miserable bugger like) and Hanson, Race and Docherty will make it a pretty strong looking batting line up. They'll lack the bowling to win enough games to challenge for the league though.

Difficult to tell but Washington's bowling looks very thin to me without Ebs (was thin last year with him!) so Mr Real has his work cut out. Think we'lll see a continuation of pretty negative fields from the off and a backing of the batters. On the plus side the return of David Hasslehoff and the signing of Lee Rushworth makes it a stronger batting line up. Think they'll have a similar problem to Murton in that they'll be hard to beat but won't take enough wickets over the season.

I think Stewy Patt will be a good signing for the Harbour and on their "unpredictable" wicket will be a nightmare to get away. They have a couple of decent young bowlers who will compliment him well. He'll shore up their middle order and I think that they'll finish second to Boldon if McKinney and Laws are both playing this year.

My predictions:

Away
Home
Home
Home
Away
Draw

Having passed judgment on some of the other sides in the league I think its only fair that I give an opinion on the Quay's prospects!

We've lost Joe Dodd to Eppleton but his injury meant he didnt bowl much last year so he wont be as big a miss as he would otherwise have been. We lose both Cuskerans to the merchant navy until mid June and Matty Dench has signed for Sunderland to be closer to home.

On the plus side, Tudor has resumed the captaincy and we will get a full season out of Berwick Hall. We will be in the 3rd-6th bracket with Murton and Washington I reckon and where we finish in that bracket will depend largely on how good a season Davey Brown has. He's been the best amateur bowler in the league over the past ten years but isn't getting any younger. If he has his usual 70odd wicket season and Hall, Orridge etc support him we should do ok!

Washington to win the league for me, The signing of Rushworth will make a massive difference, just need that extra bit luck this season.

no my cousin lee rushworth, chris brother.

all of us at hylton are gutted he left but we understand his choice.

Aye understandable mate, he's a top batsmen.

Saying that, you just couldn't offer him the tour we did, he smashed that dancefloor good and proper in Kendal. ;-)

I s there money involved here?!

Why on earth would a batsman leave the flat-track paradise and silky outfield at Hylton for the "round your ankles" deck at Washington?! Strangest transfer of the winter!!

Lee is a good batsman but Washington already had some of those. Where does Lee fit in? Have washington lost a few or is one of the local lads in the top order going to get their nose put out of joint?

No money involved and if you ask Lee he will be happy to fully explain his decision.

Lee is opening the batting for me. Straight swap for James Thompson who is playing for Durham Academy this season. Cheers for your concern but think we got it covered!

As for predictions and etc I don't have a clue. Boldon CA are obviously the team to beat though. Are rumours true that Gary Hewitt has resigned and Tommy Nixon can't play?

Don't think Gary contributed too much last season though - was batting way down and doesn't bowl.

They'll be the team to beat and to be honest, I don't think anyone will get too close to them this year.

We'll be lucky not to finish bottom at this rate anyway haha. Umpires will be smelling blood after my so called press release.

Can't get over it me. Absolutely fuming. The sooner that bullshit article is deleted the better.

Its not the umpires you need to worry about mate - I'm sure I speak for every member of the Coast League slip fielders' union when I say that we're looking forward to having a good chirp on against the "superstars" of Washington CC!

Nee pressure like.

Haha give owa, the "superstars". Far from it.

I'm trying to get it deleted like, its a disgrace of an article.

Don't have the link but it's basically just mrreal spouting off about how Washington can't wait to get out of the Coast League, how they're too good to play in the Coast League, how cr*p Coast League umpires are blah blah blah........................................

No it's not.

It was a bull shit article where me, Chairman Adrian Wood and Pro Darren Hickey were "Quoted" without even been interviewed. It was made up for a Uni project and I was mortified when I seen it. Never mind when it was put on the net.

You'll not find a link because the website editor has deleted and they'll be releasing a full explanation and apology.

I'm taking this very seriously though Sweeper mate. I'll speak to anyone about it because what you said there is a million miles away from how I honestly feel. I've spoke to Peter Brown and also sent him a follow up email. I don't know if your joking or being serious but I'd like to think you'd know I'd never say anything like that. I'm really angry about it and have spent all day trying to sort it out. I have another phone call arranged with the website editor tomorrow morning as well!

Hopefully it will all be sorted but I have a feeling some damage may have already been done. So frustrating for me to be credited to something I didn't say.
