With the first weeks fixtures this weekend what do you all think about the prospects for the season. Will Boldon get their third title in a row, How will Seaham Park do after their close season difficulties off the pitch.
Boldon will win it IMO - they have a lot of experience in their side and bat very low with Tommy Nixon often coming in at number 8. Seaham Park will be kept off the bottom by their pro but will still finish bottom three a mon avis.
Will teams be marking time, investing in facilities rather than pros?
This will be Bill Quay's approach but I can only speak for us - unfortunately experience tells me that too many clubs will spend money on players who, quite frankly, don't make a big enough difference to warrant it. My personal opinion is that there isn't a single "pro" in the Coast League who warrants their money, and hasn't been since Calvin left Murton.
Will Murton ever come back to former glories?
They will be top five in my opinion. I rate John Sample as possibly the best all round cricketer in the league (miserable bugger like) and Hanson, Race and Docherty will make it a pretty strong looking batting line up. They'll lack the bowling to win enough games to challenge for the league though.
Will the two teams heading for the NEPL2 go out with a bang or a whimper?
Difficult to tell but Washington's bowling looks very thin to me without Ebs (was thin last year with him!) so Mr Real has his work cut out. Think we'lll see a continuation of pretty negative fields from the off and a backing of the batters. On the plus side the return of David Hasslehoff and the signing of Lee Rushworth makes it a stronger batting line up. Think they'll have a similar problem to Murton in that they'll be hard to beat but won't take enough wickets over the season.
I think Stewy Patt will be a good signing for the Harbour and on their "unpredictable" wicket will be a nightmare to get away. They have a couple of decent young bowlers who will compliment him well. He'll shore up their middle order and I think that they'll finish second to Boldon if McKinney and Laws are both playing this year.
This weeks fixtures (if it stops raining!) are:
Seaham Park vs Easington
Silksworth Vs Murton
Bill Quay Vs ryhope
Boldon CA Vs Dawdon
Peterlee Vs Seaham Harbour
Washington Vs Hylton.
Ok folks over to you.
My predictions:

Having passed judgment on some of the other sides in the league I think its only fair that I give an opinion on the Quay's prospects!
We've lost Joe Dodd to Eppleton but his injury meant he didnt bowl much last year so he wont be as big a miss as he would otherwise have been. We lose both Cuskerans to the merchant navy until mid June and Matty Dench has signed for Sunderland to be closer to home.
On the plus side, Tudor has resumed the captaincy and we will get a full season out of Berwick Hall. We will be in the 3rd-6th bracket with Murton and Washington I reckon and where we finish in that bracket will depend largely on how good a season Davey Brown has. He's been the best amateur bowler in the league over the past ten years but isn't getting any younger. If he has his usual 70odd wicket season and Hall, Orridge etc support him we should do ok!
