Club finances

I think where people get annoyed with finances is when we are told the owners will be covering the shortfall this year so no need to sell any players.

We then sell a player and are still told that money is not available due to shortfall this year.

It’s a fair question from people IMO, if we didn’t need to sell before, then we sell, to expect an improved transfer budget this Jan, when we need that extra push in a competitive division to get us over the line.

Good post. Judgement reserved until close of play on Thursday.

With regards to Cattermole and Oviedo wages and club losses at the start of the season, when working out budgets they must have only worked on crowds of around 15000 for gate receipts
Surely with the crowds that we are now getting this must more than cover there wages

Ahhh.. But there's running costs

They budgeted on 29,000 crowds.

Did anyone really think we could get 29000 at the end of last season when they were looking at buying the club
The budget would have been built after the club was bought and the PR drive was in operation. Remember the push for season cards? Over 23k in the end so that’s a strong indicator.

Agree. If we don’t go up it’s on the manager. We should be able to get promoted with the squad we had pre Maja without the need for more players. Obviously he needs replacing now so we have to bring someone is but considering the options I wouldn’t be opposed to a loan rather than someone having our pants down because we are desperate for a player who will need to be replaced again.

We are creating in average 4 attempts per game and 20th best in the league (from lad who’s done the conversion rate thread) which is f***ing abysmal for this side.

If we don't go up its on the lot of them combined.

The new board has no money and it’s an ever decreasing circle.

Although what you say is true what I’m also saying is true. We have no money for many signings that much is obvious and I’ve always been open for safc at any point to open the board up to people who have money

The problem we always arrive at at safc is that once people get to be in control of the club they are very loathe to open it up to anyone else

If Donald was smart he would be looking around for a major investor and attracting him or her onto the board

The current board don’t have any money and ultimately that will lead us to a situation we don’t like. in fact we are here now as you can see with the frustration at the minute due to lack of signings

He’s right and if people can open their eyes they can surely see this

It will be a financial disaster for safc if we don’t go up. Even if we do we will need new signings because this current squad isn’t good enough to make any impression on the division above

Crowds will be down next season if we don’t go up and that feel good factor will be lost

First things first though is that Donald needs 3 new signings in the next few days to push us over the line this season. He dare not fail.

What if we do go up?

Ok but still don’t think they would have budgeted for the crowds that we are getting that must nearly cover there wages above the average wage

Not convinced about that tbh. 4 bids for Grigg and their manager is doing press talks knowing we will come back in again.

If the piss take was over we should move on because it seems like that’s exactly what he’s doing.

Have you ever considered previously we just bent over splayed our cheeks (an accounting term) and paid what was asked?

You’re right they didn’t budget for average of 32,000.
SD has said the extra income from gate receipts and player sales has put the club in a much stronger position. However, we are still forecasting an operating loss.

Well, this thread is solid evidence that it's pointless trying to explain anything beyond transfer fees and signings to some people. They judge everything based on cash in/cash out for players and refuse to take anything else into serious consideration.

Some of course are just miserable and are known as such so will make themselves visible on every thread having a moan because it's what they exist to do.

There's no point having an inquest until the window closes. It's the same every year, lots of business is done at the end....remains to be seen if the current ownership will deliver or not but some can't wait to stick the boot in.

I would suggest bidding 4 times and having 4 bids rejected then having the ‘selling’ clubs manager take the piss out of you in public because he knows you are desperately going to come back again with an increased offer to match the asking price still has the same end result as paying the same asking price tbh. Which is exactly why i’d fuck him off now. If we want to get bargains then clubs need to know we will move on if we can’t get the player for what we want instead of just coming back in over and over till we match the bid.

Negotiating is fine. Spending all window making increased offer after increased off while the selling club plays you until they get what they want anyway is far from ideal. Especially when they are telling all other clubs that we just keep coming back and back again with increased offers for players, especially when during all that time you sell your only goal scorer and have 4 days of the window left to get a deal done knowing if it doesn’t happen fans won’t be happy and promotion hopes will take a big hit.

Wigan can pretty much name their price now. We need to fuck them off and move on instead of bending over for them.

What would you rather we did Sam, its their club who made it public?

Not sure what you want here, other than to criticise

He is for sale, we are looking for the price, and we will have other options, Bain isnt running the f***ing circus anymore

I’d move on to another target mate and show other clubs we won’t have the piss taken out of us. We tried. It wasn’t enough. They’ve mocked us publicly. Just tell them to get fucked and go for someone else.

This is why I end up writing a very long post every year when the accounts come out. Those same people will be the ones who come out with tl;dr in response. Sigh.

As I said we will have other options, we havnt announced it, they did. They have mocked us? wow, let him f***ing stay there, gone are the days when we pay over the odds.

Still not sure what you want our owners to do

What are your suggestions?

Methven said losses were likely to be “at least £10-12m, excluding exceptional items.” Those exceptional items would include, amongst other things, the further liability that may arise from the ongoing Ricky Alvarez court case.

Reports have proliferated that the club expects to reduce its operating losses to £5m this season, but he pointed out that is instead the ‘annualised’ loss position they expect to find themselves in at the end of this season. In layman’s terms, they expect to get monthly operating losses (i.e. before player trading) down to around £400k, which will then translate to an annual loss of £5m.

When will people finally take the hint that we aren’t going to be splashing millions of pounds we don’t have on players we can’t afford?
In other words we don’t have a pot to piss in despite Donald claiming otherwise when he rode in on his chariot.

What a time to be alive

Still very surprised that Oviedo has not been moved on. Was it club Brugge that was in for him at the start of the season? Doesn't even get much game time and is on a big salary.
The fact he's not getting games (plus his high wages) is possibly what is putting people off
He should be absolutely tearing up the wingers/full backs in this league but on the rare occasions he plays he looks very weak defensively
Another Moyes pup on big money

He doesn't say that at all. Why so negative?
