Lets see who comes in this week, i believe them when they say we’ll strengthen but its also good to see we’re negotiating hard and not having the “piss taking” still

Its what was needed, they’ve done a fantastic job so far turning things around

We get no extra money for being in the Championship TV wise. Obviously the gate receipts maybe higher, better away followings and bigger games. We all want to go up but we get the parachute money regardless of division.

I thought we did mate, you sure?

Edit: Just checked and we earned around £7.5m last season through TV revenue, this season it's expected to be less than £1.5m, so there is extra money to be had in the championship.

Methven said losses were likely to be “at least £10-12m, excluding exceptional items.” Those exceptional items would include, amongst other things, the further liability that may arise from the ongoing Ricky Alvarez court case.

Reports have proliferated that the club expects to reduce its operating losses to £5m this season, but he pointed out that is instead the ‘annualised’ loss position they expect to find themselves in at the end of this season. In layman’s terms, they expect to get monthly operating losses (i.e. before player trading) down to around £400k, which will then translate to an annual loss of £5m.

When will people finally take the hint that we aren’t going to be splashing millions of pounds we don’t have on players we can’t afford?

There’s not many people expecting we spend millions upon millions imo.

It’s all well and good saying we can’t afford to buy anyone but on the flip side there’s Stewart Donald on twitter every other day saying Ross will be backed with whatever he wants, or comments like ‘we’ve already bid more for a player than we paid for all the players we signed in the summer put together’ which would suggest over a million just for one and then he’s now saying he wants three in.

Methven saying one thing and Donald another so no wonder people are struggling to understand what is available or not when they don’t seem to know themselves.

Spot on. It's posters on here yet again that are desperately attempting to lower expectations. It happens every season.

You didn’t read the article then.

“Charlie Methven also confirmed to ALS what Juan Sartori told us earlier this week, when we met up with him in Uruguay. A meeting between Methven, Donald and Sartori prior to the visit to Charlton earlier this month had seen unanimous agreement that money would need to be spent in the current transfer window to strengthen for promotion. “We had to weigh up the financial value of promotion,” Methven said. “And we decided investing now made for a valid business case.”

Anything less than first place this season is in effect the worst season in the club’s history.

In a way aye. That’s maybe a bit simplistic as it’s been by no means the worst to support us even in the last fifteen years. But not being promoted would be a failure. No point in dressing that up

Must have sent the cheques using Parcelforce then. Hope he kept the tracking reference

I have no doubt we are in a tricky financial position but you can’t tell me we cant leverage our current situation a tad. Ultimately, we are not running away with this league and we need a little help to try and get out of it, if we don’t then we will only compound our situation.

It isn’t helpful at all that Roker Report and ALS are effectively mouth pieces for the new regime and there really is no direct challenge. I don’t mean being nasty, but reasonable questioning which is completely absent.

The Roker Report podcasts are utterly cringeworthy in their failure to put the owner on the spot, on anything. I understand their position to a degree as the owner is their golden goose and they don’t want to frighten him off, but if they do, well that speaks volumes.

I thought you had summarized to be honest but your ending sentence seems to contradict that quote from him. So him and Donald are saying we will invest and you are saying we won’t using that article as evidence we won’t?

Or I’ve missed something.

100% sure.

It's unfair as it is for a Championship team to get £40M a season compared to £7M. They aren't then going to top that up to £47M. Of the £7M championship teams get £4M comes from the Premier league anyway.

I think I've misunderstood your post mate. I know the parachute money remains regardless. When you said we get the same amount from TV revenue anyway, we don't surely if we remain in this league?

Last season we earned £7.5m from TV revenue in the championship, this season it's expected to be around £1.5m.

At least we have 300k from maja to put towards a player.
And that interview makes it sound like they had a meeting to decide where that money was going.

Oh how times have changed

That include the Dong money and increased attendances?

Plenty on here challenging them, unfortunately quite a few misconstrue what the Owners say and get the wrong end of the stick.
It was clear from day one finances would be limited, I have heard nothing from them that contradicts that.
Why would they need to be 'put on the spot'?
What have they said or done wrong?
