Chris Rigg

Why just have to get promoted this season to keep our best players. We've already lost Clarke but if we fail to get promoted that will only be the start.

This is a 'Sliding Doors' season.
Definitely This. We miss this season and several key players leave and it takes us another three years to assemble a squad collectively good enough. It's why I'm so nervous.

I recall many saying we had Liverpool's pants down when we sold him and Colback was better anyway.
I thought at the time we had got a fair price and Liverpool had got a decent player.

They didn't seem to rate him to start with but most came around. I think he's a tremendous team player who's made the very most of his ability.

He should have been England captain ahead of serial loser Harry Kane IMO. I never got the stick he got from England fans at all?

I'm genuinely worried that if Rigg adds goals to his game which he no doubt will and continues to shine week in week out we'll receive some massive bids in January.

I was just thinking that. If someone offers 40 million or more how could we say no. Yet it would be terribly disappointing to see him leave.

But if he is scoring and busting out MoM performances every week he might want to see out the season with game time and move in the summer the price will be the same then. ITHICS

The price will just go up and up. If we do lose him I hope there is a bidding war.

Archie Gray has never scored a single goal in senior football and is worth £40M. Rigg has been very close to scoring a couple of goals in 3 starts. If he could score 10 a season it should put at least another £10M on his price.

If we get promoted there is a good chance we replace a lot of developing players just to stay in that league. That's the dilemma, not quite sure how the hierarchy would play it and why I'm just very pleased at the point we are at and not thinking any further forward. Love it,just enjoy the moment is my motto.

His contract runs till 2027. See if we get promotion in summer, then talks on a better deal. Good for us, the player will be in the driving seat and the agents will get there pound of flesh.

I see that in his physique as a 15-16 yo, but his playing style is totally different and he is becoming a much bigger and stronger player than foden, who I think is only 5'7.
As is Edgar Davids, in fact he's a smidge shorter...

I get he's a bit more physical even now and he's growing and looking stronger all the time, but his gait and the way he carries himself on the ball to my eyes is similar.

If (still a big if) we can get promoted i can see him signing a new deal in the summer. Then after a year of premier league football we can then start talking £50m+ imo. But without premier league experience i think the best we could hold out for is the £40m leeds got for Gray.

Not sure i trust KLD to hold out for that though. Can see him being tempted as soon as the offers get to £25m+

Can everyone stop talking about how much we can sell him for and look forward to him Been here for a few years and growing as a player and a person with us man.
I agree with you - 10 days ago, folk were up in arms about selling Clarke - now half the board are falling over themselves to sell Chris Rigg for as much as possible.

I'm not going to read the whole thread now, but here's a thought: Maybe Riggs could be the new Raich Carter - leading us to league and cup glory - then we would be one of the biggest in Europe and he won't need to go anywhere else.

Too early to be drinking whiskey from the bottle mate.

Cash mate. We cannot even compete with Ipswich for wages

I've watched Sunderland for over 45 years and I've never seen a 17 year old like Chris Rigg.

He's made 3 out of 4 starts in August and easily won player of the month for a side top of the league.

He has the potential to be our best home grown player since Raich Carter nearly a 100 years ago.

That's how special a talent he is.
So you didn’t see Todd so have skipped one of the contenders ?!

Perhaps a little but £35M for Anderson and £40M for Gray who can't lace Rigg's boots says there's still plenty money washing around.

City sold a player for the thick end of £70M and bought almost nobody.
Anderson was just a trick to get around ffp.
