Chris Rigg

He was ahead of him on reputation alone, not ability. If we get up and Rigg has a season in the prem then his value will exceed what’s gone on before. 50m plus.
😂😂😂😂

Bellingham was literally getting slashed all over the media and sky sports news etc when he wa at Birmingham due to how good he was

Got some big. Boots to fill

As others have said, he didn't hit the international scene with the same massive splash as Rooney or Owen. He was very promising but they were literally touted as world class when they were 18. They were revelations at tournaments. Bellingham wasn't at that age.

Do you think Rigg will be in the england seniors by the world cup realistically?

I don't see anyone who is?

People have tried to talk down Rigg saying 'well he isn't Jude at 17' but he is never going to be. He's a 17 year old kid with a boy's physique playing man's football.

Players develop at differed rates. Jude wasn't fully physically developed at 16 (like Rooney) but he was 6 foot and very athletic.

Peter Beardsley never played at a decent level until he was 22. He was rejected by several clubs because he was too small. He's the same height as Rigg is now.
Plenty were desperate for him to leave and sign for one of the big boys or dare I say Newcastle. Probably the same trying to down play his potential more he's committed here and playing very well

It's very good question. Nobody in the world can predict the answer. Did anyone think Mainoo would be starting in the Euros 20 months before it happened?

Loads on here were saying he was definitely signing for the mags.

I'm delighted he's still here and hope he stays for a good while but realistically I'll be happy if we keep him for a season.

Just my 2p worth, but from a Sunderland point of view, he's the first Sunderland academy player I've seen in a long time that I've thought would go on to the top level. I think he's better than Henderson was at that age, closest comparison for me would be Bridges, who I think would have played at the top level for years if not for his injuries.
he reminds me of a young Brian Robson

Looking at the current CM options in the England squad I'd say he has ever chance

Cant see it personally with the players we have in DM right now with the players coming through and as an Attacking midfielder theres even more options. Id have money on the next euros if anything.

I've looked who are coming through and there's nothing special. Who would you say are ahead / going to be ahead of him?

In the u21s + seniors now as 6+8 Mainoo, Wharton, Bellingham, Rice, Gray, Angel Gomes (wait till you see him play), Alex Scott

Coming through - Ethan Nwarni, Chukwuemeka, Kellyman (can play as an 8 or 10)

He is just as good if not better than most at the age 17 but it will take a big move and him playing in the prem for a season to make the squad.

Gray really is average at that level. Amazed Spurs paid that sort of cash for him.

So not much to get past then.

I'm not massive on Wharton, admittedly I've only seen him at Blackburn. Neil was far better than him in the match down there last season.

Like I said not a wealth of talent in CM area

If you dont think theres not an abundant of talent then you dont really know football. £200 to charity bet that he wont be in the world cup squad?

Not saying he will be but its very hard to predict like.

6/7 months before the euros and mainoo had barely played any, if any at all, PL games for united iirc.

6 month later and he's starting in a Euro final for England.

Mainoo would have been playing for United at the start of the season if he wasnt injured. Thats why they signed Amrabat on loan towards the end of the window on loan.

Can you read what I typed again and tell me exactly how I’ve had a “mare”.
You literally quoted loads of stuff from the last world cup in November / December 2022. Jude Bellingham was 19. He scored 1 goal against the minnow Iran.

You then said Owen was older when he scored in the world cup in 1998. He was more or less exactly a year younger at 18. He scored a goal against Romania and his wonder goal against Argentina.

Considering you were trying to make the point that Bellingham had made a big splash in a championship at a very young age it was completely incorrect. He never started at game in Euro 2020 (that was held in the summer of 2021) when he was on the cusp of his 18th birthday. He made a couple of cameo appearances but never played at all in the semi or the final.
