Chris Rigg

Michael Bridges was arguably better for us aged 17 than Rigg.

Rigg clearly has loads of potential but people need to steady on, plenty of example of young players who don't fulfill their potential for one reason or another. Hopefully Rigg has has feet firmly on the ground.

How didn’t he? According to transfermarket he played 35 games in a row at the start of the season. Looking at wiki he then got injured and that ended his season?

Is that wrong?
In the comparative season to this one for Rigg, Hughes played:

35 league games.
33 starts.
30.8 "90s"

Hughes turned 17 in the April before and Rigg has turned 17 this June. So both around the same time in terms of football seasons

Thanks, I thought he did, and he got injured is that right?
Yes he got injured in February in a 0-0 draw against Wolves. He might have been fit by the end of the season but the manager decided to give him a longer summer to recuperate given his age and that Derby weren't chasing anything iirc

Where did Derby finish that season? They never got promotion in his 6 years at the club 😂

Again how does that have any relevance, we haven’t been promoted yet Keith, we’ve played 4 games. Why have you suddenly ignored my reply too?
Sorry like but any team who could get Rigg for a pittance of compo were in for him.

No big bids for Hughes or he would have gone.

One brilliant player makes a massive difference in the Championship. See Amad.

Hughes made no difference to Derby in 6 years.

I think people need to rein this in a bit like. Some of the replies are absolute madness.

Best 17 year old since Messis debut is going to take some beating like. There’s been f***ing loads better and again that isn’t a dig at the lad.

There’s 17 year olds winning euros finals and that so it’s just pure hyperbole at this point

He is outstanding for his age but come on man people saying he’ll go on to be better than Foden and that based on 4 championship games is just pure madness at this point

Why was it not true, he made 35 appearances prior to his injury at a slightly younger age than Rigg?

Not much in it, but wasn’t he ever so slightly younger than Rigg when he had that run of playing 35 games in a row?
Do we rate players simply by how many games they've played early like rather than what they showed?

He is already class but also we’re in the championship so he’s not playing against the top players yet. We can’t compare him to Foden, Rooney, Messi… yet

Great for his development though as he’s running the show each week, 4 games into his first proper season.

Sky is the limit, same for Jobe who has been impressive under RLB.

What came after is EXACTLY the point.

At the same age as Rigg. Will Hughes had links to the premiership top dogs as shown in that article.

He went on to start 35 games in a row, winning young player of the month, in the process. There was rumoured interest from all the top teams at the same point in his career as there is to Rigg, he sustained a big injury and his career took a nosedive, he’s eventually recovered and got a decent move and is playing football at a good level.

This is the exact point, whilst I think Rigg will go on to have a better career, it’s far too early to judge and speak about him in the same breath as Jude, Messi, Rooney and Foden.

He’s young, his trajectory could continue or he could take a nosedive, you can’t say based on a handful of championship games he’s the best talent since messi 😂

It’s more the level imo, you can’t compare a 17 year old who’s had a handful of good appearances in the championship to players starting in the champions league, for Barcelona or being a stand out player in the prem at a similar or younger age.

Of course you can't. You can't compare him to Lamine Yamal for example. But you're talking about Will Hughes :-?

Yes, the same will Hughes who had similar interest and was doing similar things to Rigg at this age?

When Hughes was Riggs age I bet Derby fans were saying the same, and there was rumoured interest from the big boys just like there is in Rigg.

I do think Rigg will surpass him, but it’s not an unfair comparison as Rigg is on a very similar path thus far.

He was making the point Rigg being linked to big clubs means nowt because Hughes was also linked to big clubs, it was hardly rocket science to work out. Where as Rigg is being called a generational talent which means he must be seen as being a better talent than Yamal.

If Man City and Co seen him as a generational talent they'd have offered him a massive wage to leave us.
