when we had more hens we'd sell surplus eggs to pay for the feed.... but not now - in fact I buy eggs when they're not laying enoughCost more in feed than the price of the eggs produced.
nope - I have 4 cats to take care of the rats...
had 12 hens at one point - down to 3 now... had all sorts in the past - various breeds, standard RIRs and ex-battery hens...
Love em. Cannit beat a good fresh poached egg of a morning. Been a steep learning curve mind. I've had to learn to deal with all sorts of ailments and emergencies including prolapses, eggbound, peritonitis and in one case, despatch !! (I cried while doing it)
I reckon my Cat could take a Chicken mind .My mam used to keep them.
One of them was absolutely mint, if you went and sat on the wall it would jump up and sit next to you. Obviously looking for food and that but it was still great how tame she was.
Surprisingly they’re also vicious as fuck when it comes to cats. If you want cats to stop shitting in your garden get a few hens!
That is 100 percent true. A 25 kg bag is currently selling at £8.50 and most of the buggers are off laying now. Or if your resting them 6 quid for wheat !!Cost more in feed than the price of the eggs produced.

I imagine some Cocks could be quite hard aye. My cat is nailz tbh, he's an indoor cat for a reason. You’d be surprised. They spot them, get their head down and charge basically.
Cats tend to shit themselves at the sight/sound of it and scarper.
In-box me hen.Anyone got any ? Had nearly 20 at one time, now down to a slightly more manageable 10
Better then lions shit?Surprisingly they’re also vicious as fuck when it comes to cats. If you want cats to stop shitting in your garden get a few hens!
When I fist got mine it was a pretty steep learning curve. The buggers would roost anywhere, trees, fences, anywhere up a height. These days, they get up, have a wander about the garden, then put themselves back to bed when the sun sets. Pretty low maintenance really. They shit a lot like, gallons of it.
At the moment I've got various...nope - I have 4 cats to take care of the rats...

Got eggs from him a few times and they were the best Ive had.@Skellatits cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Duracell Bunnies are better.Mrs K's Mam (no) has them. Usually has 5 but replaces them as they expire. She gets them from Lucky Hens Rescue. They're former battery chickens.
