CC : Yorkshire vs Durham

So 8 points taken from the game, do we know if the slow over rate will incur a penalty? I would hope the umpires would apply some leniency.

Shouldn’t be too much of a problem in a week where it seems likely that all the games will be drawn but had we managed a session or so today we’d have definitely got more bonus points so theres a lot of frustration there.

Absolutely ridiculous. Ground staff have worked ever so hard. Umpires clearly want to get home after having their lunch. Very poor when bonus points to play for & dry forecast. I've had a walk round the boundaries and it's dry and perfectly playable. Cricket once again shooting itself in th foot with crazy decisions. It's a lovely day here as well, any doubt they could have given it another hour. Shocking
Only to be expected with O'Shaugnessy aka 'Half A Shift Harry' as one of the umpires.

I'd have Worcs down as favourites to beat Gloucs - only Day 3.

I suspect the outfield down the slope towards the west stand where it flattens out a bit has been the problem. I walked on the outfield on Wednesday at the tea interval and it was clearly damp then. It’s had to suffer a massive deluge in the meantime of course.

I suppose it would only take one player to have a mishap which caused serious injury for there to be uproar, and I suspect the umpires wouldn’t want to risk that, particularly as a draw was the inevitable result.

Durham match report, lost a point

Instead, the runaway leaders had to settle for seven points having lost a point due to slow over rate – with Yorkshire also picking up 7 points.

That's a disappointing end to the game. Commiserations to those who travelled. A reminder of how worse drainage is at out-grounds. It was common to see test matches abandoned like this years ago.
I think he went home yesterday and was replaced by Phil Mustard.
How is Phil Mustard allowed to umpire Durham games?

Looks like the Yorkies have today been given a 48 points deduction for this season, they've just released a statement moaning how unfair it is

Just had an alert saying Yorkshire are getting a 48 point deduction

Well they should have a word with Colin graves and all the money they owe him about fair fines

they are lucky that they can still have tests

I find this points deduction stuff all strange.

For one, what does 48 points mean to Yorkshire - they can't go any lower than Division 2.

Mostly if it had been as impactful as the Durham punishment would it have been fair in the first place? By this I mean is the principle is you punish the guilty but not the innocent, points deductions can only punish supporters and players and all players found guilty would or should not still be at the club.

Punish those who are guilty. If there are any in the management who allowed wrongdoing through inaction, turning a blind eye or incompetence, sack them or make them ineligible for office.

And for the record the 1pm inspection consisted of both umpires walking about 3/4 of the way to the ticket to shake hands the walk back off. At no point between 12-1 was any official or ground staff inspect the pitch, in fact all but one member of the ground staff team were out the back playing cricket behind the stand, the other sat on the tractor but that's fine they did their job. Umpires made no effort to give that game the best possible opportunity of play. They were all leaving 15-20 minutes after the decision, no hanging about. Just poor all round as that pitch was fine

You had a chance to go see the pitch lucky you that's very unusual

Cricket never seems to do itself any favours.

A lot of people said that, I think everyone was gearing up for play as they announced free entry. Groundstaff even had the wickets out ready to knock into place as well. Just don't think they've (umpires) given that an opportunity to get on for play. Frustrating as it could have been a fascinating two sessions.

There was someone from Durham and another from Yorks in middle for inspection with umpires. The wicket wasn’t a problem, the bowlers run ups were. It was obvious from conversations in members lounge that there was unlikely to be any play as early as midday.

I was on about the umpires, for me they didn't even look at the pitch at 1pm. It's a shame but that wasn't an inspection at 1pm, it was a "show our face after our free lunch and let's go home". They were leaving within 20 minutes of the announcement, talk about a quick getaway. Frustrating as the ground staff worked really hard and I feel the umpires given the weather didn't give the game a chance. Frustrating for the public and very much so for Scarborough cricket club as they've tried bloody hard

From where I was stood there was a conversation out there and everyone shook hands before coming back to the pavilion. At noon no one was expecting to get any play due to the run ups being to wet. What were they supposed to do?

Well they already showed that when they walked off on Day 1 for absolutely no reason.
