CC: Sussex vs Durham

BBC Radio Newcastle's Martin Emmerson:

"Durham skipper Cameron Bancroft scored his first Championship hundred of the season on day one at Hove and helped rescue his team from 90-5 just before tea. This was the first time Bancroft has opened the batting in the Championship for Durham.

"They had recovered well from the loss of opener Alex Lees for a second-ball duck, but then lost three wickets in two Chris Jordan overs to leave them struggling before tea on a weather-affected first day.

"Bancroft, who has 120, will resume day two with Ned Eckersley, who has 70. Their partnership so far is worth 169 runs. It's Durham's best sixth-wicket stand against Sussex."

Must say, I overlooked the fact it was Bancroft’s first go at opening for us, can’t believe he didn’t do it from the start really, especially when his best route back into the Australia team would be opening.

Harte seemed more than able at 3 too, with Burnham at 4 seeing him back to where he (IMO) should be.

Don’t mind Trevaskis being in the side, think he’s a decent cricketer, but I’d have him no higher than 7 with Eckersley 6.

Agree with all of that . . . Given that Bancrof has scored a 100 and a 50, is averaging 37 and did well in the RLC, he's our best overseas for ages. Worth a contract for next year if he's open to one.

200 partnership for the 6th wicket

300

We’ve added 41 in 8 overs of the new ball this morning.

150* bancroft

expect to see them open their shoulders now and score a bit quicker, trying to get the final batting point

Eckersley 100* from 221 balls with 11 fours

Bancroft 150* from 291 balls with 12 fours and a six.

350 up

Rubbing my eyes, can't believe what I'm reading ......

very well done these two.

Eckersley, Leicestershire fans must be gutted. Great signing,

Eckersley gives Wells a caught and bowled, he’s gutted. Excellent 118 though.

Partnership was worth 282 in 74 overs.
