CC :: Middlesex v Durham

Slow going from our boys which slightly negates a day in which we’ve only lost 5 wickets after being inserted. Durham will be the happier, but with rain around tomorrow it might be a tall order to force a win from here.

First target has to be 44 more runs in the next 14 overs to get that third batting point, but we’ve just got to bat and bat really. In fairness to Middlesex they bowled some really tight spells (Andersson aside), it didn’t do a great deal for any of their bowlers, if there is any criticism at all its that perhaps we should’ve been a bit more pro active against their spinners. That Hollman was bang average, but we gifted him two fuckers and allowed him to bowl at us for most of the day. That’s what annoyed me most about Stokes actually, because if he’d have been a little more patient he could’ve taken him to the cleaners gradually, over time.

Anyway, solid enough first Day, happy enough with such a ‘light’ batting lineup that we’ve made them toil for 96 overs. We’ll see what tomorrow brings, but the weather forecast has improved quite a bit. We may not lose as much play as we originally feared.

Was talking to a bloke in the ground today who had seen Hollman bowl before. Reckoned it was the worst spell of spin bowling he had ever seen in First Class cricket. So today was a big improvement but should have been got after as he could well have bottled it.

Lots of starts today but only Ned looks like capitalising. Very frustrating.

Clearly what stokes was doing but it just wasn’t the time for it

So many 1s and 2s on offer for him

I used to be a middlesex member and I kind of remember why I left they do just produce extremely boring cricketers

There’s a clear difference between Durham lads and the type of players they produce. Decent and solid but no X factor

Before Durham had a first class county they had always been my team as my dad was born there. I loved their team in the 80s with Barlow, Brearley, Slack, Radley, Gatting, Butcher, Downton, Edmonds, Emburey, Cowans, Williams, Selvey, Daniel etc
