Bit of a later start to the thread than usual, I had thought for a while to just let the ‘Playoff Final’ thread take the role of the match thread but then it would probably mean that lads and lasses after genuine advice for Lords would have to trawl through loads of our bedwetting to find the bits they wanted
.
GREAT WIN last week, which of course gets us up and running, it would be great if we can follow it up with another win this week with what should be pretty much our strongest possible lineup (Wood aside) provided the England lads are allowed to play (I see no reason why they won’t).
Like going into last week, there isn’t really much to discuss that we haven’t already covered regarding the team and form - this will be our 7th game in 7 weeks in the Championship and will mark the halfway point of the red ball campaign. The break for white ball cricket that will follow this is probably coming at the right time, it allows minds and bodies to rest and refocus for the second half of the campaign and importantly it’ll allow the England lads to go off and do their thing, with the hope that they can come back at the end of the season to see us to promotion. Again, hence why a win this week is very important, or at worst, a good chunk of bonus points in a draw.
Looking at Middlesex’ performances so far and also at games at Lords, I think the bowlers will quite fancy their trip this week. It does seem like the Lords pitches have had a bit more about them than the general consensus of the rest of the country - which of course is a nod to the notion that Lords has never allowed itself to be dictated to. Not only that, but I do feel like last week was a game where the bowlers started to work things out a bit more regarding the conditions/pitch/balls. Not just in the second innings either, so we’ll see how that plays out.
I wouldn’t change the side, but I do acknowledge the club will probably want to get Trevaskis back involved at Lords. I’ll be interested to see if Stokes is any more of an active participant this week from a bowling perspective. It’s been disappointing how little he’s bowled up to now but hopefully this week will see a further ‘ramping up’ of whatever perpetration he’s going through for the upcoming Test Matches.
Come Sunday, let’s hope we’ve got two London wins to celebrate!
Ha’way Durham!!
