CC : Essex v Durham

I don’t see how England can’t pick Robinson.

He's got a chance but you dont just pick players on averages in the CC like

On that basis we'd have Burns and Sibley opening, and that makes me shudder at the thought
Yeah ....he doesnt normally bat that low down the order.....perhaps because he is just coming back after injury and admittedly poor form prior to it. Normally he bats at 3 or 4

I like him there, its like a 2nd wave of attack

Enjoyed dipping in and out of the stream around the England game which was fortunately rather short! Fantastic day in prospect tomorrow, will probably arrive as they're declaring at 11:05! My train arrives at 10:47 and its a ten minute walk but need to do a quick Tesco Express run for cans

Nah, bat for atleast a full session, the way our boys go there’s no reason why we can’t declare at Lunch with 600 on the board - means they’d have to make 450 just to avoid the follow-on.

He's played the way that got Bairstow recalled a few years back and Brook too.

He's averaged 98 with a SR of 85. It's the sort of form that gets you picked for England.

He also scored two 80 scores at similar SR for the Lions batting with the tail, against a good India A side. Doing the exact thing they want their keeper to do. They also gave him the gloves instead of Rew.

If England want to back one of Bairstow/Foakes. Or back Smith/Cox who have also had good seasons.

Then I'm happy he stays at Durham as still plenty of cricket for us to play. But he'd be no doubt be disappointed, as he surely would think I couldn't have played any better than I have done to get into England. He also showed what's he's capable of right in front of the England captain too.

Mate you don’t have to persuade me about Robinson, I just mean I don’t agree with statements like “England must pick him”. He’s put himself in the conversation

Personally I can’t see smith keeping wicket long term, and I think Foakes is done meself, his batting just isn’t up to test level, certainly when batting with tail

it’ll be bairstow or Robinson I think.

Pile on the runs tomorrow going to need Parka to bowl hint of turn bit overall still looks a very good pitch to bat on.

It does, but both Harmer and Critchley got balls to turn, keep low and also bounce excessively on occasion - not a bad position at all to be in for us with 400 and plenty on the board and more power to add.

Lots of variation in our attack, should allow us to keep every bowler fresh.

My thoughts exactly. Absolutely grind them into the dirt and see what their made of. Looks like a spinners wicket and judging by the way they flogged Harmer and Critchley thats what Essex think. Don't know what the days stats will say but I got the impression our run rate went up when the spinners were on. No idea why Essex persisted with that, but maybe they thought that was the best wicket taking option?

Been an absolutely top signing for Durham
Agree too that he can’t do any more to warrant selection

I wouldn't get too carried away. While we batted well, the wicket did nothing and the weather forecast is for more batting weather all week.

We are going to need to bat a bit longer and rough up the wicket so it offers something to our spinners. Ackerman batting low down suggests he's preparing to turn his arm over. It would be nice to see Borthwick put in a few overs as well, can't understand why he doesn't back himself more. He's no Shane Warne but can mix things up a bit with leg spin,

As mentioned earlier, there was variable bounce from both their spinners - whether that’s the pitch or just the natural variation created by the bowlers themselves I can’t say, but to say the wicket did nothing isn’t completely true.

Don’t get me wrong, I was thinking last night that we may well struggle to take 20 wickets in 2 and a half days, but at the very least we should be able to put ourselves in a position fairly early on Day 2 where we can’t lose the game.

I like Ackerman at 5 like, think we look stronger

I agree on Scotty, I said at the time he went to Surrey I thought it was a mistake from a cricketing point of view, albeit I think its a great life experience for him.

Was our main spinner before he left, and he was actually a really decent T20 bowler especially, he became almost 3rd spinner at Surrey and he has just lost the habit hasn't he, never looked the same bowler when he came back.

This is a lad the ECB funded to play in Sri Lanka and NZ domestic leagues, as a batter and bowler.

I am a big fan of him as a captain but judging his batting, I think if he wants to prolong his career well into his 30s he needs to start bowling again.
With Rew playing no where near as well as last season, could be between him and Jamie Smith, if they decide on a new keeper

Smith will play for England at some point but not as a keeper in my opinion, he doesnt even keep for Surrey.

I think you are the only person on here who agrees with me on this.

In the RLC in 2021 he was one of our stand-out bowlers (10 wickets at an economy of 5.2, not to mention his contribution with the bat). Now we'd be lucky to see him bowl a solitary over.

He needs to spend less time in the commentary box and more time in the nets.
