CC : Durham vs Sussex

Went for a walk round the river at lunch, the lad with the Jack Russell in the pushchair was sitting having his lunch at a picnic table just behind the ground, the little dog was lying beside the bench *sunbathing* , as we walked past the little b@stard jumped up and came snarling and barking at us, his endearing appearance is now history for me.
Next time I'll kick the little tw@t up a height.

I’ve got my grandkids from Australia arriving tomorrow so I’ll be not so noticeable in the next few weeks as we are also off to Haggerston for a few days
They come all that way from Aus and you take them to Haggerston?

I notice Jones got out cheap again: his form is a cause for concern.

Been a very poor session 3 of the softest dismissals you will see a long hop, half volley on the hip and a needless slog sweep.

No reason not pile them on this is a very very limited attack.
Bedingham does seem to like a chip to midwicket

That’s at least 4 times been out in this fashion this season mate he drives you mad at times the talent he has.

Bedingham goes with a lazy shot.
Something weird must happen to this wicket on an afternoon.

Interesting observation, but whilst only 1 wicket has fallen in both first sessions combined - things do seem to happen after the sandwiches. Quite finely poised this now, if the lower order and tail continue their form from the rest of this season we could get a very sizeable lead, but a couple of quick wickets and we could be scrambling around to get beyond them.

Either way, the way Robinson bats it should be very interesting
Lees been outstanding since England dropped him

He has and interestingly he does score his runs fairly quickly when he scores big. He may not be an ‘obvious’ BazBall style batsman, but he’s getting the job done. I believe that’s his 5th century in 7 Championship innings :o
_
Edit - confirmed. FIFTH hundred in seven Championship innings :o

One of the ‘failures’ was a 65 not out at Scarbados.
-
His last 7 innings:

103
65*
171
22
195
145
101

Spot on. It’s the glory of four day cricket. You’ve got to get your footballing “we’ve been shit for ten minuets so the sky is falling in” head off and put it away.

This has been a great day so far and while there’s room for a change and room for disaster still we’re well on top for me. The other side is allowed to try as well though.

Given the context of the game that’s maybe a little harsh, we’re currently 110-3 after Lunch and now only trail by 28 with plenty of batting still to come.

Happy with the overall position but they where sloppy and the 2 to their spinner are criminal mate.

I don’t even think I would say he was a spinner a slow bowler.

Lees has been brilliant all season but you can always tell when he’s going to get out starts to look tired and then a give away.

I still think we should go onto hammer these they bowled well first thing but really the lads could be 1 or 2 down max.

That was a very dodgy LBW round the wicket it pitched on but was very leg side you would of reviewed that in a test match.

It would of been hitting the leg bail at best.

Tea:

Durham 270-5 (67 overs) lead by 4 runs.

Clark 20*, De Leede 1*

Elsewhere, Leicestershire lead by 45 on first innings at home to Gloucestershire but take only 3 bonus points from their bowling effort. Gloucestershire now lead by 42 runs with 7 wickets remaining in what could be a low scoring epic.

Glamorgan were skittled for 170 at Worcestershire for a first innings deficit of 114. The hosts have extended that lead to 133 with 9 wickets remaining. 4-3 to Worcester in the bonus point battle.

Ultimately, it appears that we’re going to outscore all the chasing pack in the bonus point column this week.

Worcestershire and us winning from here and Leicestershire not winning would confirm our promotion. In that scenario we would need only 6* more points to clinch the title.

*based on us getting 300-349 runs in the first innings. If we get 450 inside 110 overs we’d need only 3 more points to clinch.

I thought it was a shocker at first glance, but it pitches on leg (possibly even clipping middle) and straightened. I hate to say it, but I think it’s a brilliant decision
