CC :: Durham v Nottinghamshire

The Glamorgan pundit was saying this the other week. He couldn't believe we had a leg spinner who had been picked for England (for his bowling) that didn't back himself to bowl. Off spinners are going to struggle for turn at this time of the season but leggies can tweak it more.

He couldnt hit a consistent length last season and kept bowling a full toss every over. He bowled better in the RLC and has looked better in the CC this year.

His batting has been poor for a few years now, he's more useful to us as a leggie who can bat a bit than a specialist batsman. As previously mentioned, I'd have him down at six.

Drissell I don't think he'd have played but for Trevaskis concussion substitution. He's simply here on trial and as cover.
Does anyone think that Borthwick should have been picked for England as a bowler that time? I didn't. Most of the wickets he took in those years and in the Test matches he played were because of 'surprise' long hops and full tosses.
On the other hand, I think he's been much better since he came back. Much more consistency and fewer 'surprise balls'. As his bowling has advanced, although not quite to a good standard his batting has regressed. If it wasn't for being club captain you'd have to wonder about his place in the side.

I think he was picked as he was already in Australia (Sydney) playing cricket. He needs a few good scores

Wooly Hat has made its first appearance of the season. That Easterly wind is bitter up here
Lunch at Durham, quick walk up to Ropery Lane to watch Chester le Street for a bit.

He was gettint better for Durham, he was excellent in the t20 and was our main spinner in all formats

All while he had some great seasons at number 3

Surrey did not rate his bowling, he hardly bowled and it’s clearly had an impact

I understand moving to London would have been good crack and a good expericne but in a cricketing since it set him back a long way

I really want him to focus on his bowling it’s difficult when you are captain and top order, @smoker might have a point moving down order

I rate him is a decent bowler though, or I did when he was here, he’d have to be prepared to work very hard to do so

Feels to me like it’s not part of the plans though
After 80 mins of play Notts have added 25 runs and lost 4 wickets .

Decent fight back by Durham today

Hopefully batting by time I arrive

Yup. Swann went home and Panesar was shit. I thought he was bowling canny for us at the time but he was only 24 and you'd cut young player more slack.

He needs a decent season. His numbers are modest for an all rounder never mind a batsman.

has 220 wickets like, average at 39 could be lower, but its been going up

taking over 200 wickets is an achievement, remember he barely bowled the whole time at Surrey

these are converstions that need to come from Franklin and North though,

people like George Drissell shouldnt even be in the squad when we have Borthwick

Good effort by Durham to contain them today. Hopefully the batsmen are motivated to bat for 4 sessions and can be as selfish as they want.
Good effort by Slater on how to bat on a slow wicket.
