CC :: Durham v Nottinghamshire

Didn't get to see any of today's play and by the look of the scorecard and reading the comments on here it sounds like another tough day for Durham and especially their bowlers.
It looks like if Notts play well they will be about 300/350 ahead by mid afternoon and gives them a day and a half to bowl out Durham.
One thing I will say in defence of Durham is they do have 2 front line pace bowlers not available who make up The best 4 man pace attack England have and also another genuine quick bowler who has broken into the England set up who is injured. There are numerous counties who haven't produced 3 bowlers of that quality in 20 years never mind in the same team. Some people may not agree but that is the main purpose of county cricket so that is some effort.
It maybe that Durham have to change their policy of signing overseas batsmen to at least having one overseas bowler who is a point of difference to the standard county seamer.
Going tomorrow and hopefully Durham batsmen can take advantage of the conditions and bat for 4 sessions. A great opportunity for the likes of Jones Peterson or even the skipper who could do with a big hundred.
It would be a start if we were to play the best bowlers currently available!

A really exciting prospect though is Jack Campbell, 6' 7" , LMF. Finishes Uni this year then presumably full-time pro. Could be a left arm Harmi with the right coaching.
We saw him play in the rlc last season. Very promising player. Pace wise though, he's more C.Overton or Robinson than Harmison.
Who is not playing who should be possibly Salisbury.

Salisbury should clearly have played over Gibson. I'm all for giving kids a go and it was understandable for him to play against Leicestershire but not the league favourites. He got some tap, was taken off and other bowlers ended up covering his overs. Salisbury is a bit of a journeyman medium fast bowler but can make the new ball move and took 11 wickets against Notts last season.

Was really unimpressed with Drissell, small sample size granted. Borthwick bowled much better, he needs to back himself more with the ball, to at least hold an end.

Drissel held an end

He didnt hold an end at all, he went at 3.2, bowled to short and too leg side

Borthwick only went at 2.3 and bowled much better
Amir joining the CC

Some top bowlers abot, you have to wonder if we should have got one
our best overseas in recent times was big Hastings

It was more for the bounce Cambell can get rather than pace that I compared him to Harmi.Gibson looked void of confidence after the early tap.

The Glamorgan pundit was saying this the other week. He couldn't believe we had a leg spinner who had been picked for England (for his bowling) that didn't back himself to bowl. Off spinners are going to struggle for turn at this time of the season but leggies can tweak it more.

He couldnt hit a consistent length last season and kept bowling a full toss every over. He bowled better in the RLC and has looked better in the CC this year.

His batting has been poor for a few years now, he's more useful to us as a leggie who can bat a bit than a specialist batsman. As previously mentioned, I'd have him down at six.

Drissell I don't think he'd have played but for Trevaskis concussion substitution. He's simply here on trial and as cover.

free caps, what have i missed?

For a couple of years Emirates dished out free baseball caps at each Durham v. Lancs. T20 game. There the red caps that are frequently seen worn around the Riverside. I had a few but threw most of them out as their crap quality and don’t fit my head very well.

Ah if it was only at t20s that explains why I never got one
a leg spinner who had been picked for England (for his bowling)

Let's be honest he was picked because he was in Australia already
He deserved to be picked for his batting at the number 3 spot more than he ever did for his bowling
