CC :: Durham v Leicestershire

Had loads on today so didn’t get to see any of it live, just watched the whole day there with the old ten second skip inbetween balls to get through it.

I’m as baffled as everyone else with the tactics in the final hour - I’m happy Jones got a hundred but it took him far too long. In the end it was just ugly. We should’ve pulled the plug with about 7 overs left, leaving us 5 at them tonight. Their openers must be laughing themselves to sleep tonight, not having to face Rushy and Potts with a new ball tonight.

We should win tomorrow, a few balls in that last session were keeping low and the pitch has started to turn a little, but far too many times in recent history we’ve been left wishing we’d have had another half hour or so to go for the win whilst trudging off having only drawn a game.

They batted for 110 overs in the first innings and tomorrow will mark just a week on from them batting a full day to secure a draw, with Azad batting all 96 overs.
This. That last hour today was an absolute farce topped off with the final two overs of Borthwick scoring 1 from 10 balls which was just embarrassing

Quite an enjoyable day today. Personal milestones for Potts and Jones. Think we have batted too long though needed at least 5 overs at them before the close. Hopefully I will be proven wrong by close of play tomorrow.
Think it makes little difference. If they can bat the full day they can bat a full day plus 5 overs pretty much. Otoh, if they get into difficulties it can all be over by tea.

The argument is though, that a handful of overs at them tonight is a no win situation for Leicestershire. They’re not going to take many runs off the total, but they may lose a wicket or even two - and they may end up sending a nightwatchman in which theoretically means you’re getting a cheap wicket early on day 4 if they manage to survive the mini session on the night.

Exactly right

It’s why I think we will bat on

Otherwise we’d have given them 5 overs or so

Can't see it. There's just nothing to bat for today

What was there to bat for in the last 7 overs last night?
No chance of them batting on Shirley ?

Does my tits in the sentiment around 3 figures, completely meaningless. In reality there's little difference between 90 not out and 108

That’s not what happened!!! Why does everyone keep saying this?

We had 3 people padded up

We were batting on regardless of he got out out on 99

I didn't say it did but it often does

I'm sure it was an element though ;)

Honestly wasn’t mate

We were batting out that day regardless
to bat them out of the game, which has already happened.
to get jones 100 which has already happened.
to give KP a bit of CLS time at the crease, which has already happened.

Fair does

I’m not kicking off but I don’t think we gained much from not having a bowl

everybody on this thread feels the same - we should have had a dart at them.

only a handful however appreciate the fact that if leicestershire end the day 310-4 we'll look back and realise batting out the day gained us a draw not cost us a win

we should be able to win from here either way and if we can't it's on us as a fielding team not on the captain's decision. i'm still confident but yeah, i'd have like to see us declare but that's always the fans' opinion. being the captain is different

It won’t though mate

Those 7 overs will make no difference they’d have not been attempting to score

Just thought we lacked intent too

England aren’t perfect but look how they batted in Barbados and in Antigua in 2nd innings late on to set it up

Only Dickson did that. Wasn’t one big shot after

Anyway I can only make part of day dunno if it’s worth 15 quid for just the first session!

Now personally I think that last item matters, not a great deal perhaps but somewhat. I wouldn't have wanted him playing so soon after arriving here - often Durham throws the overseas in the minute he steps off the plane and too often very good players don't do well.
Not that it changes the calculation much.

Hope they don't bat on, would be madness.

Yeah maybe I’ll admit that
Anyone else think they’re missing a trick not lowering prices to get a bumper crowd?

Sadly mate they could drop the prices to £1 for today and people still wouldn't be tempted to watch County Championshio cricket.

Also - I've been here since 10.15 and still no announcement of a declaration.
Declared.
