CC :: Durham v Leicestershire

brandon

Striker
The home opener is nearly upon us, starting Thursday. Long range forecast up to now looks good, we shouldn’t be thwarted by the weather atleast this week.

Leicestershire managed to salvage a draw last week at home to Worcestershire thanks to 25.4 overs of resistance from final pair Azad and Hendricks. Aside from Azad, who scored bucketfuls of runs a few seasons ago and is a very capable opener, they haven’t got great strength throughout. Lewis Hill made 90 in the first innings but with Ben Mike coming in at 7, they’ve got a very long tail. Chris Wright has a solid FC record and along with overseas man Hendricks (who didn’t take a wicket last week) they are a capable new ball pair, Ed Barnes joined from Yorkshire, but aside from Ackermann - who always seems to do something against us - it seems to make plenty of sense looking at the names in their side why the bookies have them as joint favourites (with Sussex) for the wooden spoon.

Keegan Peterson should make his debut for us, I’d imagine he replaces Dickson at 3. Depending on the conditions he may come in for Trev which would further bolster the batting. It’s probably still too early for Stokes - but it would be a huge boost if we could get him in the side for the following week at home to the scabs.

On the point of the bookies, they have us joint second favourite (at 5/1) to win the title along with Middlesex and Glamorgan and if the Welsh lot are perceived to be our biggest challengers for promotion, then based on last week we’ve got nothing at all to fear from the opposition. As it has done in years previous, it’ll come more down to us beating ourselves.

The future’s bright

HA’WAY DURHAM!

Petersen definitely available? Test only finished yesterday, a flight today then game in Thursday seems to be a quick turnaround

If Petersen is available I can see him coming in for Trevaskis as I can't see him being required much at the Riverside in April.

First opening home game of the season we've been able to attend for three years.

At least we’ll get in OK……membership card arrived this morning along with a pin badge celebrating 30 years of being a first class county.

why have they left it so late?

I not a member this year, do we know how much on the door it is?

Pass.

Quick look online says £13.50 for adults and £5 for bairns which I assume is a 50p increase for adults in advance?

I hope the County Durham Upper is available for Thursday. The refurb work only started a month ago as per article on the Durham cricket website, I was told by someone at the Uni game who is an ECB official, it was due to the club receiving the money late, so I'm expecting the ground to be a bit of a construction side at the moment. Hopefully some of the below things are sorted for Thursday.

I got this off someone earlier, won't say who.

No seats in The Trapdoor
No seats in the small stand next to the sight screen at Lumley End.
The Durham Uni banner/advertisement taking up 25% of the Co Durham Lower.
Co Durham Upper taped off
Box Office and Reception Area fenced off.
Advertising boards around boundary missing.
That seated part of the pavilion that's only used for Internationals all fenced off.

Other than that everythings ready to go for the new season

right cheers mate

How much is membership
Can't remember to be honest for us are we are on the gold membership so can't even remember how much we paid. Adult this season I believe was £220. We paid £20 for the bairns ticket. Adult T20 is £70.
Fuck me it's embarrassing. Couldn't even afford to make the gold cards gold this year
It's it chipped or something? As there's no barcode to scan anymore
Yeah they're chipped and yes I noticed no gold membership card

£220 or £200 if you went for the early bird offer as I did - Shame the club weren't as quick off the mark posting the cards out.

Looks about right from my visit for the members’ evening. The ECB are providing an interest free loan for the hotel/ground improvements according to Tim Bostock. That’s why we will not fall out with them

Interesting to learn from that where the wicket is tomorrow- at least it'll shut the Members Balcony up from moaning about how far they are away from the action.
