CC :: Durham v Leicestershire

Quite apart from the first time we've won a game as a 1st class county after following on, it was historic for another reason....

It was the first time we've beaten Leicestershire at home, and this means that every 1st class county has beaten every other 1st class county home and away in the CC.

Great stat that Steaky.

The away win against Leicestershire in 2005 was the catalyst for promotion - hopefully the same can be said of this win in the months to come.

Was true from 1974 when Leics won at Lords until we entered the league, and is true again now.

They aren't the most talented side in the country but if they rely on the things that made us great (fight and fast bowling) we'll be fine.

How did this become apparent, which statistician is responsible.

What became apparant yesterday during Leics' innings was that they had gone so long without a victory they simply didnt appear to know how to finish the task (rather like us in the mid 1990s)

Nice of Look North to report Leics were dismissed for 110....perhaps they were awarded 9 extra runs for Parkinson's boyish charm throughout the game.

Sounded loud as fuck on Chester golf course when the last two wickets fell

It was like The Fulwell End for the QF against Chelsea in 92 when Weighell was charging in for that last over!:D

Durham's first win after following on leaves Lancashire & Worcestershire as the only teams that have never won a County Championship match after following on.
Wow, given how long the Championship has been going that's impressive, I wouldn't have believed it.

Same as there are Counties that have never won the Championship!

and they had a 100+ years head start on us anarl! I thought marty said Yorkshire never had either, which seems daft, although maybe he got his lancs and yorks mixed up :lol:

Saw this excellent paragraph on CricBuzz from their County round up and wanted to share it, made me chuckle at first but then immensely proud of who we are and what we stand for, especially the first sentence:

"After the nuclear apocalypse hits, among the cockroaches and twinkies will be Durham County Cricket Club, plugging away. Explain it away as Northern Grit if you must, but seriously - how do they do it? Scoring 403 in your follow-on, then defending a target of 148? James Weighell, perhaps the best example of why Durham need to be - from Middlesbrough, via Northumberland, given a chance at Chester-le-Street - picked up the slack after Chris Rushworth had to leave the field, taking a career-best seven for 32."
