Having read the cricinfo report, I see that Lancashire haven’t scored a batting bonus point since 1 July - so clearly you’re right when you speak of low confidence.
At 138-6 they probably feared not getting any batting bonus points at all, the partnership at the end atleast makes it look likely they will do, but all that considered I still expected a touch more urgency given they’re 10 points behind Notts. With a draw here and if Essex beat Notts they may gain enough points to climb outside of the relegation zone, but it’ll be more or less a straight two-game shootout from there and one of Notts’ opponents is Kent.

Yeah new balls been key in these gamesI reserve the right to completely change my view on this when we bat, but there didn’t seem to be anything at all yesterday out of the ordinary with the pitch (or through the air).
I think that’s why this new ball this morning is so vital. We need to get through them and get batting.
