CC : Durham v Hampshire

Jamie Smith was playing in the T20 leagues otherwise he might have got the nod instead.

If they move on from Bairstow/Foakes it's definitely between Robinson/Smith.
Smith definitely in the frame but also Rew at Somerset . Both probably looked as better batsmen than Robinson but Robbo probably better gloveman.

Mohammad Abbas called into Pakistan squad training camp so unlikely to be available.
Good result if true that.
Ahh I misread it's Mohammed Abbas Afridi. Not mohammed Abbas, did think was weird they'd bring him back for white ball.

So we're still facing the most lethal opening pair in the CC @Parkside

Ah bugger, nevermind
Haway Durham. We are strong and well prepared but this is a step up and teams like Hampshire are a quality outfit

I’m interested to see how we do

I can’t remember a team get talked up as much as Durham after promotion, every podcast and paper I’ve read really rates us

It’s unusual mindset for me after last few years.

I think the record from last season was so impressive and we won the Division by so much that it demands respect.

Add to that the fact that we’ve built a pretty formidable side on paper - with arguably the best bowling attack in county cricket and one that would make some Test sides jealous - people are looking at us and are taking us seriously.

It’s a brilliant time to be a Durham supporter that’s for sure. To win the league this season would be an unreal achievement, but given that we’re on an upward trajectory and some other strong counties from previous seasons are about to enter a period of transition it could be a very exciting few seasons ahead.

Best way to look at it is if we loose Robinson to England he must have had another cracking season as i would think there are still 2 or 3 ahead of him.
Yep. I don't think it likely we will lose him, not this season.
But there are other reasons possible such as injury.

Bairstow will keep wicket IMO, I can't be arsed getting into this debate again, but Foakes has no future in the side, as good of a glovesman as he is. Bairstow averaged 40 in the Ashes, kept well in the last 3 tests when fit. I dont think he will make huge 100s anymore but he will score runs witht he tail, which is what we need.

If they chose to move on and aim for the ashes, which is possible, I think it could be between Robinson and Salt.
Yeah not a chance.

If he's made such a massive call to miss World Cup/IPL and get his bowling fitness back. He's not going to flog himself in April in the CC, lets be honest.

Be great to see him turn out for Durham again though.

Can see him playing a fair few though, I get your point but he actually needs to bowl overs to get that fitness back
