CC :: Durham v Glamorgan

Pity rain prevented Notts beating Middx. I think after that win today I would have preferred Notts to have won and Middx not get those draw points.
Interesting game next week at Lords and surely that win has lifted spirits in the Durham camp but need some of these senior players to lift their performance levels. Pleased for the skipper with runs and the win surely got to do him the world of good.

Great win, great bowling and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks Potts is Test quality.

I can't help feeling that there's still problems to overcome as only Potts is taking wickets and he might disappear into the England set up.

What's up with Rushy? Is it the ball? The pitches? Or is it him in some way? I'd like to know.

Maybe I'm worrying at nowt and his lowish bowling returns are just down to bad luck.

The good news is at the end Carse seemed to get his mojo back so that's something.
Just watched

Just watched Potts being interviewd by Marty. He speaks well, good interview, worth a listen.

So mature, what a man!

Love the use of the word ‘plateau’ in there too

“The futures bright” he says, I think he’s been reading my posts

Was that Durham's jack Campbell playing for Hampshire
Good call mate 👍 The initials of JOI suggests it's Jack Campbell.Furthermore he's a Hampshire having been born in Portsmouth.Don't think he's played for the Seconds yet 🤔, due to exams at Durham University.Maybe he's a free agent.I'll check with Red Telephone 😉

Yes it was! Hampshire v Sri Lanka Development Xi at the Rose Bowl. They sneaked that one under the radar! Presumably on loan?
He is contracted to Durham. This news item from Nov 2021.

Comments after the game from Matt Maynard:

"I thought they bowled brilliantly, the wicket was a bit up and down, and the way Matty Potts and Brydon Carse bowled today alongside [Ben] Raine and [Chris] Rushworth, they gave us nothing.

"The first [offence] was Billy Root who didn't believe he got near the ball so he he lifted his head and arms up, Michael Neser (given lbw) felt he hit the ball and raised his bat a little bit. The rules are what they are and we appear to have broken them.

"It's an emotional game. These situations aren't ideal and we've talked about it, but you're reacting to the decision in the moment - though we don't want to be known as guys who react to decisions badly.”

Fair comments really, can’t say I blame either batsman for showing a little bit of upset at being given out if they felt they weren’t - I’ve looked back and I don’t think their reactions are in any way bad at all. I understand you’ve got to respect the umpires decision, but when the game is as tight as that was today I don’t think their actions should be punished. Had they wandered down the track to berate the umpire fair enough, but they didn’t.

Problem is they were over appealing quite often during the game and they were getting more than a tad upset and berating the umpire when they realised they umpire didn't raise his finger. Must have been at least 8 of them surrounding the umpire yesterday pressuring for a ball change which promoted Borthwick to get involved then an hour or so later Franklin got involved.

Fair enough marra, I was just going off the stream, which does a great job picture wise, but not sound wise. The Neser one could’ve included verbals, I wouldn’t know, but according to the BBC their run penalty was for two breaches - both today, but I suppose their earlier antics could’ve lead to the final straw being reached in the eyes of the umpires today.

On that over appealing, it’s a real annoyance of mine when teams do it. Even more of an annoyance when it works.

Back on the topic of the game, we were the only team in county cricket to win this week. All other 6 games ended in a draw - which when you consider the issues that everyone seems to be having with the balls, is a real problem for cricket. The flat pitches and the shit ball quality isn’t helping anyone and since the same ball manufacturer will be used for the Test Matches that are coming up, I can’t imagine the world of cricket taking kindly to a situation where the ball is being changed 5/6 times an innings if it comes to that.

Oh and @smoker, I called it ;)

Seems like the pitch is misbehaving now, variable bounce.

Durham lost their last 7 wickets for 65 yesterday. Glamorgan lost their last 7 for 62. The last 17 wickets in the game fell for 202 runs in 80.5 overs. A definite sign that the pitch was sporting enough, that bowlers (ours atleast) bent their backs and that the pressure of a close game got the better of some of the batsmen. I noticed too that both teams bowled much tighter lines generally in the second innings, clearly a ploy to give the ball a chance to do something and to not allow any batsman the chance to rest on their laurels.

My understanding was he wasn't playing for us because he was doing his finals at Durham Uni. Fuck knows what he is doing back in Hampshire playing for them in the middle of his exams. He used to be with their academy and you could understand Durham offering up his services for a bit of match practice.

I’m sure you mentioned this before @brandon

I did

They were very disrespectful to us in their preview of the season pod, but I actually felt their obvious lack of research was their biggest crime. If you’re going to knock out a podcast in a manner that paints you as some sort of expert, you should at the least do your due diligence on subjects you’re unfamiliar with.

Hands up from me too, I underestimated Glamorgan, they’re a pretty solid side all told, but I’m not knocking out podcasts ;). I do think they’ll have a canny drop off once Labuschagne leaves mind.

Apparently one of their players was reported to the umpires. Marnus "no run"
