The Castle is alright if you are into that sort of thing, but you might be better of just gan to the lakes if you haven't been before.

Haven't been in years. I'd imagine it's ok, plenty of pubs. There's far worse places.

Avoid the Wetherspoons outside the station. Makes The Blandford or Josephs look quiet.

Carry on northwards into Scotland. Or get married at Gretna Green, then visit the outlet centre and stock up on Cadburys mini eggs.

That would also be my suggestion, Carlisle's ok but the Lakes areas are better imo

Stayed for night on way up to Arran. Old bank restaurant was good, some nice bars and the museum/ cathedral etc are pretty good culture wise.

I honestly saw a man neck a pint and then eat the pint pot in Barrow. It was a proper pint glass too.
