Callum Doyle

Personally I just don't care about Coventry tbh, not bothered about something that happened in the 70s, not bothered whether O'Hare is better than Pritchard etc. Just another run of the mill club tbf. I don't know of anyone personally that see Coventry as some sort of rival at all. Only recent memory I have is when soon as you got promoted and the majority of the Coventry fans were on social media mentioning us, even though we were nowhere near promotion that season iirc. Seemed a tad obsessive that.
There's quite a few of you on here the last few days, as you were when we were in league one. Doubt there's many Sunderland fans on the Coventry message board.
Coventry remind me a bit of Middlesbrough really, they always seem more bothered about us than the other way round.

I don't think they've forgiven us for when out lot ran riot after a match in the latish 70's - a lot of the buses were sent packing early and we (me and a lad called 'Limpy Les') had to hitch to Aston and sleep in a doss-house called The Boot - it was like hell on earth.

Big fan since the early 80s mate, and yeah i could understand being removed if i was being a dick but im not like that, just seemed a bit petty like i said, ive seen most Sunderland v Cov games since the early 80s home and away and theres rarely been any problems, social media has a lot to answer for.
You’re not missing a lot, this forum is so much better and it’s great to see posts from fans of other clubs. Ha’way the lads but not til’ after the first game.

Picking a professional centre half to play at centre half isn't "hanging him out to dry".

I agree that AN used him much more "sparingly and strategically". In that he used him extremely sparingly indeed, so as to not fuck up our strategy of keeping clean sheets.
Over using him was hanging him out to dry when he was clearly fatigued, as Neil said. Good luck to the lad.

To come in and play as many games as he did, at 17 year old in his 1st ever season as a professional was some doing.

He looked outstanding at 1st, but I think the sheer volume of games caught up with him, he quite clearly needed a spell out of the side to recharge but Johnson still played him every week and in the end he looked lost.

I think he’ll end up playing in the premier league for years to come, and probably pick up senior international caps. He has his limitations, but at 18 he has plenty of time to learn and carry on developing. I’ll be interested to see how he does at a higher level

I think opposition managers realised after a while to pump the ball over his head and get runners from deep going past him. Once they started doing that he was shagged as he couldn't run and he turned even slower. Added onto the fact he had a very young Cirkin who needed leadership to help him out it was a disaster most games. Once we had someone he knew where to stand and how lead Cirkin it was like night and day. If he's worked on his positional sense and their left back isn't as inexperienced he might do ok. Get runners around him who have decent pace though and he'll still struggle irrespective. Maybe his muscles will catch up with his size so he won't be as slow?

Of course we would, what went on was wrong but as others have said it didn’t appear to be a big issue until relatively recently.
I think it’s just modern day social media and message boards. My dad has always talked about it for years when I grew up. Think there’s a lot who had a similar upbringing.

I think this is a completely fabricated rivalry that doesn't actually exist. Most of us were probably born after the Jimmy Hill delay incident and although we know of it and understand it to be an unsportsmanlike event from our history, it is just something that happened in the past. No Sunderland supporter in real life, outside of the internet, spends any significant amount of time thinking about Coventry City FC and Jimmy Hill. The media and a very small number of wankers on the internet have made this up. Coventry are like Luton or Blackpool to me, just another club we will play who have no significant connection to us, outside of the two games we will play I wish Coventry fans good luck for this coming season.

I’m just gonna say this, dont’t get over confident, if your expectations are too high then you will get a kick in the teeth from reality, I know some Sunderland fans that are hopeful of survival and are looking for around an 18th place finish, dont overestimate your squads ability I’ve watched you guys play a couple times last season and I 100% dont see a top half finish for you lot. Those of you expecting to win the league or a play off push, Alex Neil is the only club staff I see at your club that is top championship quality, he’s a good manager, I could see in a couple season the likes of Ross Stewart and Embleton reaching the levels required for a higher push but I dont see it from much in your squad that came up with you. Anyways, no toxicity from me enjoy yourselves this season not all Cov fans are pricks by the way, we do have our scumbags and I’d say more than a fair share but it doesn’t represent our full fanbase, we are a very passionate fanbase and we get behind our team.
Good luck

Don't get over confident if Callum Doyle is playing centre half for you. I've seen milk turn faster than him. He's too heavy to jump as well so good luck with that one.

Coventry are one of those clubs like Reading or Watford that 99% football fans don't give a shit about..Boring club with boring fans..pissing their pants about signed Callum Doyle on loan

A fair chunk of it will be related to their behaviour when they beat us 5-4 a few years back. A significant portion of their fanbase went on like absolute arseholes both during and after the match.

I'll wager that likes of Roberts, Ballard and Pritchard will end up being top championship quality by the end of the season. As for where we'll finish I don't see many people saying we'll win the league, or even get in the play offs so don't know where you got that from. I see us midtable. As for quality of the league, I saw a fair few games and the quality wasn't certainly what you're suggesting.
Ok 15th Coventry fan to come on here, many of us over on your forum?
This. Yet apparently we're obsessed with them.

Our squad isn't even complete yet so I think it's difficult to judge. But we already have the likes of Pritchard and Roberts who I think will be more than capable at this level, Stewart too, I think he'll still be scoring and make the step up, we've also got experience in defence with Wright and Batth, and a highly rated young lad in Ballard from Arsenal.I think we'll bring in another 4 or 5 and will hopefully hold our own, and by the way, there's nothing wrong with confidence and optimism, anything could happen, the likes of Luton had a great season last time around so you never know.

So you've watched us twice last season and you feel qualified to talk about how we will do next season. Mint.
