My cousin visited me the weekend goneand sorted all the beds and greenhouse out I couldn’t with being in hospital so I’ve kinda caught up, I can start planting the greenhouse out this week, cucumbers, tomatoes, cucamelons and jalapeños all ready to go !onions are in and lettuce is just about big enough to coin the my sun bed, it’s looking good again

Anyone got any maincrop taties in yet? I've normally done it by now and most of the standing water has gone from my garden (finally!). Taties and parsnips are usually in by now, but it still has been on the chilly side a lot.

Not yet Dave.
I put my 1st taties (Casablanca) in grow-sacks just after St.Paddies Day.
The 2nds (Charlotte) - went in the ground on Wednesday just gone.
I shall put the main crop (Desiree) in the ground in a week or so - weather depending.

Just sown some Parsnips (Hollow Crown) direct into the ground this morning. Hopefully they will germinate now.

Cheers. I was thinking about starting the parsnips under fleece. I tend to do that anyway. I used to have a cat dig in my veg patches a lot so for me it was cat and cold protection. That one seems to have gone now, but I still generally cover seedlings until they are big enough to be established.

it is always gutting to have those neat rows of developing seedlings after 6-7 weeks, to then go out one day and find them dead, scattered all over and generally ruined, only to have a lump of half buried cat shit in their place. At least once the plants are 20-30cm tall and there is less bare soil between them, the cats stop bothering.

Anyone know any tips for brining peppers on? Planted them too late and they are still seedlings.

Going to try the longer, thinner pots seems to work with tomatoes.

I'm planting my potatoes today, some from seed potatoes and some from supermarket potatoes that have sprouted...has anyone had luck with regular supermarket potatoes? Am I wasting my time and growing space?

I’m on a few allotment groups on Facebook, more argumentative than any other groups. Dig v no dig, seed potatoes v supermarket potatoes etc. Worse than on here!
Mind, specialist interest groups are the only good thing about facebook these days.

I’my dad reckons he’s used both with varying degrees of d’success, he advises planting summit else that will garuntee a crop , especially if you’re limited for space.

I’ve only ever used seed potatoes myself . So I have no idea really...

I’ve used 30 litre buckets this year just planted my mains yesterday.

Can’t say I’ve seen a huge difference and I’ve used a few varieties of both. Digging in some chicken manure has definitely helped increase crop though.

My peppers are seedlings - though I tend not to get good peppers so that might be the problem, planting them too late.

It has been pretty cold this year so I held back everything a few weeks.

Same, I was worried about the poor weather and drab, dank conditions making them too leggy. However, now I'm worried about them being too late.

Suppose I should have bought an established seedling but I like growing from seed.
