I'm feeling really good about my veg patch now. I struggled for enough time between work and home schooling during the covid years, then had a broken hand and torn ankle ligaments last year in two separate incidents, so I did grow stuff but it didn't get the attention it needs. This year was a slow start due to the very cold and wet weather we had early on. The ground was so sodden I think any of the earlier seeds (like parsnips) would have just rotted.
I've had things like potatoes, parsnips, carrots and beans out for a while, but had not even cleared the beds for things in the greenhouse to go out. Did all the digging over in the heat on Saturday and that was knackering. We had a thunderstorm and heavy rain all night, leaving everything nice and moist for planting. Got almost everything planted out on Sunday morning and the things to stay in the greenhouse potted up into the big pots after I had cleared some space. More rain in the afternoon got the outdoor stuff bedded in nicely.
Hot day yesterday but humid and didn't dry the soil too much, the another big thunder storm this morning. If we can have a day of rain and a day of sun for a while that will be perfect. I think if I had got stuff out earlier, then I'd have been planting in the dry scorching heat like I did last year, and would have lost a lot of stuff. Shame there is still a lot to do in the rest of the garden, but signs are I'm going to have a good veg year.
